Facility overview and floor guidance

Overview of Facilities

The Tozuka Library is located on the first floor of the Tozuka Center. The second floor is Tozuka District Center and the third floor is public hall.

  • Date of establishment: November 1, 1978
  • Total floor area / 3,386 square meters
  • Number of books / books for personal lending 166,716 books (including 42,408 children's books) / 21,777 books for group lending (including 12,424 children's books) (as of March 31, 2023)
  • Number of magazine titles / 85 magazines (of which 29 are donated) / 18 newspapers (of which 7 are donated) (as of March 31, 2023)

There are multipurpose toilets (for ostomates) and baby seats (for changing diapers).

Floor guidance

General book floor

Newspapers, magazines

  •  There are newspapers on the day, the current month and the previous month. It has been stored in the library for one year since the month before.

      Newspaper compact edition (Asahi Shimbun, February, March, April, 1971, January, 1978 (Showa 53)
      The Nihon Keizai Shimbun (from January 1990) can be found in the reference book corner or in the library.
      Newspapers and newspaper compact editions should be used only in the museum.

  •  Please use the latest issue of the magazine only in the museum. You can borrow the back number.

Reference Book
 There are encyclopedias, newspaper compact editions (Asahi Shimbun, Nihon Keizai Shimbun), various yearbooks, various white papers, dictionaries, picture books, etc.
 You cannot borrow it, so please use it only in the hall.

Local materials
 We collect books and administrative materials to learn about Totsuka Ward, Yokohama and Kanagawa prefectures.
 Books with labels "inside the building" and "reference books" cannot be borrowed. Please use it only in the museum.

Foreign language materials
 There are novels and practical books written in Chinese, Korean, and English, as well as foreign language translations of Japanese novels.
 In addition, we collect information on living in the city for foreign citizens, books introducing Japan, and reference books for learning Japanese.

Large print book
 We are collecting books written in large prints.

Paperback book
 I'm collecting small books of size.

Large books
 We collect large-sized books such as the complete art collection.
 A house map is also available in the large book corner.
 Some wards in Yokohama (Tozuka, Izumi, Sakae) are located in the counter, so please request at the first counter.

 

Teens corner

We collect books and novels from fields of high interest in teens from junior high school to high school students.
Books on school life, career and work There are books on hobbies such as music, sports, cooking, introductory books in each field, novels, etc.

Children's book floor

Picture book 
 There are picture books such as folk tales and folk tales, story picture books, and knowledge picture books.
 Monogatari picture books are arranged in the alphabetical order of the person who drew the picture.

Picture book corner we meet for the first time
 It is located in a corner of the picture book and picture-story show corner.
 We have collected recommended picture books for 0-year-old babies to 2-3-year-old infants who meet picture books for the first time.

   This pamphlet is distributed at medical examinations for 4-month-old Health and Welfare Center children in each ward. Introduction of children's songs and picture book lists for children aged 0 to 3 years.
   Library information useful for parents is posted. (issued on February 1, 2009)

Picture book corner suitable for reading stories
  In particular, we have collected picture books that are suitable for reading stories to groups.
  Please use it for volunteer activities for reading stories.

  We publish story-telling volunteer handbook "let's spread the world of book" distributed in library (pdf format, 2.2MB).

Picture-story show
 The title is arranged in alphabetical order. You can rent the stage of the picture-story show at counter 3.

Large picture books and large picture-story show corner
  We collect picture books and picture-story shows of about 40cm to 50cm in height and width.

Story
  Japanese authors and foreign authors are arranged in the Japanese syllabary of the authors.
For the first time
  I have collected books for children who read stories on their own for the first time.
Chishiki's book
  Books to be examined are arranged in the order of classification number.

Magazine
 There's a magazine for children. Please use the latest issue only in the museum. You can borrow the back number.

Reference Book
 There are books to check encyclopedias, yearbooks, picture books, dictionaries, etc. You cannot borrow it, so please use it inside the museum.

Local materials
 We collect books to learn about Totsuka Ward, Yokohama and Kanagawa prefectures.
 Books with labels "inside the building" and "reference books" cannot be borrowed, so please use them inside the library.

Foreign language books
  There are picture books and stories written in foreign languages, such as English, Korea / Korean, and Vietnamese.

Children's Book Research 
 From general books, books related to children's books and children's reading are selected and collected. This section is recommended for those who are interested in children's books.

It's on your right after entering the library entrance. At the counter, we perform the following tasks.

Reading seats

There are 41 seats on the general book floor and 16 seats on the children's book floor. No application is required.

User search machine

You can check if there are books or magazines you are looking for at in Tozuka Library and other Yokohama City Library.
You can also check the usage status of your library card, apply for reservations for books and magazines, and extend loans.

Internet browsing, online database (Asahi Shimbun Cross Search, Westlow Japan, JDream3, Japan Knowledge Lib, Yomidas History Museum, Kanagawa Shimbun-sha WEB, Nikkei BP article search service, Mainichi Shimbun (Mainichi Shimbun), Sankei Shimbun database, Web OYA-bunko, Orient Economic Digital Content Library, digitized library of the National Association.

How to use

  • Please apply at counter number 3.
  • Reservations can be accepted at Counter 3 only for the day.
  • It can be used for 30 minutes with one application, and can be used 3 times a day.
  • The National Diet Library Digitalized Material Transmission Service is available only to registered users of Yokohama City Library.


Notes

  • Limited to browsing the website for research.
  • Emails cannot be sent or received.
  • Storage media such as USB memory cannot be brought in or used.
  • Print out is not possible. You can apply for a copy of the online database and the National Diet Library Digitalized Material Transmission Service within the scope of copyright and predetermined.
  • Chat, games, writing on bulletin boards, word processors, etc. are not allowed to be used alone.
  • Downloading, installing software, modifying programs, and changing various settings are prohibited.
  • Access to sites that are offensive to public order and morals is prohibited.
  • There are some sites that cannot be viewed by filtering software.
  • Please use the Internet at your own risk.

Enlarged reading device

It's on the general book floor. Characters and images can be enlarged and projected onto the display, contrast can be adjusted, black and white inverted, etc., making it easy for anyone to read.

The front of the building of Tozuka Center is on your left.

When the library is closed, please return only books to book return box (excluding materials with discs such as CDs and materials ordered from outside the city). However, it is not available during the year-end and New Year holidays.

Post-books will take some time before they are returned. If you would like to borrow a book on the same day, please return it to the window in the hall.
