Registration for use
If you meet the following two conditions, you can register.
- Living, working or studying in Yokohama City
- Visual impairment, impairment of reading and writing, difficulty in turning a book page due to impairment of arms or hands, etc.
Registration method

It is necessary to show something that can confirm your identity and current address (confirmation documents). Recording and Braille materials will be mailed to those who have presented the certificate of the physically disabled due to visual impairment.
If necessary, it will be difficult to read print from Chuo-toshokan by telephone. Depending on the situation you have heard, you may not be able to register.
Rental of recording materials (daisy books, cassette tapes) and Braille materials
You can borrow up to 10 recordings, Braille materials, etc.
The loan period is 4 weeks including the round-trip mailing period.
※Daisy books refer to voice daisy multimedia daisy text daisy.
What is necessary to listen to recording materials (daisy books)
PC or dedicated daisy book playback equipment (PLEXTALK, etc.)
- For PCs, dedicated applications (MyBook, Chati Books, etc.) Some of them are paid) is required.
- Daisy books will be sent on an SD card or CD.

Enjoy reading on the Internet: Sapier Library
The Sapier Library is the largest bibliographic database in Japan, such as Braille books and talking books. It can be used through download and mutual loan on the Internet.
What is necessary to listen to recording materials (daisy books)
- Environment where the Internet can be used
- PC, smartphone (iPhone), tablet (iPad) or dedicated daisy book playback equipment (PLEXTALK, etc.)
For PCs, iPhones, and iPads, dedicated applications (MyBooks, Chatty Books, etc.) Some of them are paid) is required. There are no apps for Android as of March 2023.
Registration to the Sapier Library
After completing registration for services for those who have difficulty reading with Yokohama City Library print materials, please register as a member from the Sapier Library website (outside site).
Please set the facility to "Municipal Central Library".
Face-to-face reading
Face-to-face reading by visiting the museum
Please come to the library and the transliterator will read the materials you want (excluding private beliefs).
For reservations, please contact the library where you want to use face-to-face reading directly (see the list of Yokohama City Library).
Face-to-face reading online
Chuo-toshokan offers online face-to-face reading services using a remote communication app. To make a reservation, please call Chuo-toshokan (Phone number: 045-250-1619), e-mail (e-mail address: ky-libsyo@city.yokohama.lg.jp) or electronic application page (external site).
- Transliterators will read the materials you want (excluding private communication) using Skype, etc., a remote communication application from Chuo-toshokan.
- Users do not need to visit the museum because they can listen to readings at home.
- Please prepare terminals (smartphones, PCs, etc.) that can use the remote communication application by yourself. We also provide consultation to users who are worried about using the remote communication application.
- The communication fee for use will be borne by the user.
Other services
Service equipment for the visually impaired in libraries
Each library can use an enlarged reading device, a daisy playback recorder (PLEXTALK), and a reading tracker.
In Chuo-toshokan, you can also experience a dedicated application (voice of Daisy) using a tablet device.
Reference service
The reference service informs those who are looking for necessary materials and information, such as solving daily questions and searching for materials for research and research, how to search for library materials (books, etc.) and information, and helps them with research Or a service that provides information itself.
In the support project for persons with disabilities, we also provide a service to provide users with text data (plain text) with the necessary parts of the materials used to respond to the reference service. For more information, please contact Chuo-toshokan Support for Persons with Disabilities.
Registration renewal
If you have passed more than 5 years since you registered, you will need to renew your registration. Notification will be made at the time of lending materials, etc., three months before the expiration date.

Services for people with physical and mental disabilities who have difficulty visiting the museum
Registration for use
If you meet the following two conditions, you can register. If you use this service, you will not be able to borrow at the Yokohama City Library window.
- Living, working or studying in Yokohama City
- Those who have difficulty visiting City Library have received one of the certificate of the physically handicapped, the nursing notebook (love notebook), or the health and welfare notebook for the mentally handicapped.

One of the certificate of the physically handicapped, the nursing notebook (love notebook), or the health and welfare notebook for the mentally handicapped is required.
Delivery and lending of books and magazines
You can borrow up to 10 books that can be borrowed from the Yokohama City Library.

Materials exceeding 3 kg per book and large materials that do not fit in the delivery bag cannot be borrowed.
