Employees and public servants who are enrolled in Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin) are referred to as the second insured (except those who are 65 years old or older and are eligible to receive old-age pensions). You can apply for membership at your office. You can also subscribe even if you live abroad.
The premiums for the second insured are deducted from their salary as Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin) premiums, so there is no need to pay National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) premiums separately.

If a person between the ages of 20 and 60 is no longer a second insured due to Retirement, etc., they must join National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) (change the type to the first insured). Please bring your My Number Card or a document that can clarify your basic pension number, or a document that shows Retirement Day (such as a certificate of retirement or a turnover slip), and apply for membership at the ward office National Pension Plan Section. If you have a dependent spouse (aged 20 to under 60), please bring a document that can clarify your spouse's basic pension number.
