Toward private road maintenance subsidy program

In a private road in the area that is used as a road leading to public facilities such as railway station buildings and ward offices in their daily lives, and maintenance is required on private roads in a certain area centered on the public facilities In this case, there is a system in which Yokohama City performs maintenance work such as pavement.
Some conditions for maintenance work are described in the following items, but if you would like a detailed explanation, please ask at the Public Works Office window.

Road targeted for maintenance is used by many citizens and meets the following conditions. However, in principle, there are some restrictions depending on the size of the road, such as the width of the road and the circumstances of the construction, so please consult Public Works Office for details.

1. This is a private road within a radius of 500 meters from public facilities such as railway station buildings, ward offices, district centers, sports centers, and libraries that are used daily by local residents, with a road width of 2.7 meters or more.
2. This is a newly designated school road with the establishment (relocation) of elementary and junior high schools.
3. This is a private road that is under way to transfer public roads, and conditions are in place.
   Please consult with Public Works Office separately for private roads during the transfer of public roads.

The types of construction to be carried out are as follows. Please contact Public Works Office for more information about incidental work.

1. New construction of pavement
2. Pavement repair work
3. Construction of new stairs
4. Stair repair work

If you wish to maintain a private road, please select a representative (applicant representative) from the right holders of the driveway site and the users of the private road. This representative will be responsible for coordinating local opinions and consulting with Public Works Office.

Please fill out required items on the private road maintenance application form provided in Public Works Office and submit it to Public Works Office. Please submit this application between April 1 and the end of November. Consultations are accepted at any time.

Once the application is submitted, an on-site investigation will be conducted in Public Works Office and the representative will be notified in the "Notice of Decision on Private Road Maintenance Project". If you receive the notification, please submit the documents to the Public Works Office.

1. When the construction is completed, Public Works Office will give you a letter of completion of private road maintenance work. After receiving this notice, the representative must submit a “Maintenance Pledge” to the Public Works Office jointly with the landowner.
2. The maintenance and management of the private road after the maintenance depends on the handling of this private road, so please ask Public Works Office for details. In addition, private road maintenance under this system is limited to one time.
