Role of Market Food Sanitation Laboratory

The Central Wholesale Market is a food distribution base where agricultural and marine products from all over the country and imported foods from all over the world gather.

The Food Sanitation Laboratory is an organization that monitors, guides and inspects the central wholesale market.
Role of Food Sanitation Laboratory in Food Distribution

Yokohama City has set up a food hygiene inspection station at the home of the Central Wholesale Market in order to protect the sanitary and safe diet of citizens and to respond to consumers' demands for food safety.
At the Food Sanitation Laboratory, food hygiene observers with specialized knowledge monitor the food distributed on the market and conduct various tests and inspections based on the Food Sanitation Law and the Kanagawa Prefecture Ordinance.

Organization

The Food Sanitation Laboratory is an organization belonging to the Medical Care Bureau Health and Safety Department.
We exchange information with food hygiene section of the Medical Care Bureau Health and Safety Department, Health and Welfare Center Health Sanitation Division in each ward, Yokohama City Inst. of Health, etc., we strive to discover and eliminate defective foods.

The Food Sanitation Laboratory belongs to the Medical Care Bureau Health and Safety Department.
