To prevent children from smoking ~ Collaborative efforts with educational sites ~
Yokohama City provides a variety of smoking prevention education and awareness so that minors and students can choose not to smoke in the future instead of "do not smoke because they are under 20 years old." At elementary, junior high and high schools, students learn a variety of knowledge about tobacco in cooperation with educational sites, such as the adverse effects of smoking and health hazards caused by passive smoking.
Approach in elementary and junior high schools in the city
Schools, Health and Welfare Center, and community health promotion staff cooperate to provide on-site classes to prevent smoking. In on-site classes, students learn about the harm of tobacco, and health activity promotion members play the role of adults, play role in refusing tobacco, and deepen their learning. In addition, through children, it is also an opportunity for parents and other surrounding adults to prevent smoking and raise awareness of smoking.
Approach in city high school
We make city Board of Education Secretariat and leaflet (PDF: 3,727KB) and distribute to high school in the city so that we can utilize for class. In addition, municipal high schools are working to enhance learning about tobacco harm in existing health and physical education classes.
Initiatives at city universities
As support to choose "do not smoke" and "do not drink, do not drink too much", we cooperate with city universities and raise awareness by distributing flyers (PDF: 2,410KB) for new students.
