News from Yokohama City

October 16th is Green Ribbon Day.

The Green Ribbon is a symbol of global transplantation therapy, bearing the green, which means growth and new life.
Since the Organ Transplant Law came into effect on October 16, 1997, October is designated as the “Organ Transplant Promotion Month” every year.
With October 16 as Green Ribbon Day, we are working nationwide to further establish and spread organ transplants.

The Kanagawa Health Foundation will conduct green light-ups at sightseeing spots with the aim of expanding the spread of organ transplants.

Organ donation can be made after brain death or death of the heart has stopped, but organ donation under brain death, in principle, those over 15 years of age must have a written statement. There are three main ways to indicate organ transplantation.

For inquiries about health insurance cards, driver's license, or my number card, please contact each issuer.

From January 17, 2010, along with the intention to provide organs, it is now possible to indicate in writing the intention to provide organs with priority to relatives.

From July 17, 2010, even if the person's intention to donate organs is unknown, organ donation can be donated with the consent of the family. This makes it possible to donate organs under brain death from people under 15 years of age.
