■Comment from Mayor Fumiko Hayashi
I am very honored to choose Yokohama as the home area of Canon Eagles, who is participating in Japan's highest peak Japan Rugby Top League. I sincerely welcome you all.
Just a year ago, today, the final match of the Rugby World Cup 2019TM, which involved the world in a whirlpool of excitement, was held in Yokohama. Yokohama City will firmly establish this momentum in Yokohama without interrupting it.
In 1873, just 14 years after the opening of the port, the first rugby game in Japan was held in Yokohama. We will work together with Canon Eagles to create a new history of Yokohama, the birthplace of Japanese rugby.
