Yokohama Port Opening Commemorative Special Proposition "Yokohama Now," archive video

This video is an archive of the Yokohama Port Opening Commemorative Special Program "Yokohama's Now" broadcast on tvk (TV Kanagawa) on June 2nd of Yokohama Port Opening Day.
Unfortunately, due to the impact of the new coronavirus, we have forgotten to hold the "Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Ceremony" with history and tradition, but we would like to send you a bright comment from everyone who is working positively even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Message from The Mayor of Yokohama

This is Fumiko Hayashi from The Mayor of Yokohama. June 2 is the opening day of Yokohama.
The opening commemorative event in Yokohama has become an annual commemorative event since 1909 (Meiji 42), when the Fifty Years Festival was held.
There was a time when it was temporarily suspended during the war, but it has been held grandly every year since 1950 (Showa 25).
Unfortunately this year, due to the impact of the new coronavirus, we have postponed the holding of the Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Ceremony.
We will not be able to celebrate with you, but we would like to celebrate the opening of the port by reflecting on the history of Yokohama.

The state of emergency has been lifted by working together with the citizens.
Yokohama City will continue to work hard to prevent infectious diseases and restore economic activities as soon as possible, and will do its utmost to restore the bustle and vitality of the city of Yokohama.
We would like to congratulate you on the opening of the port next year.

Message from Chairman Yokohama City Council

This is Mr. YOKOYAMA Masato, Chairman of the Yokohama City Council.
June 2 is an anniversary to celebrate the opening of Yokohama with citizens and businesses.
Yokohama opened on June 2, 1859, and today celebrated its 161th anniversary.
Unfortunately, the opening ceremony was canceled, but I would be grateful if you could feel it in your heart that today is the opening anniversary of the opening of the port.

Currently, due to the spread of COVID-19, we are facing major challenges such as efforts toward a new lifestyle and economic recovery, but we have overcome many difficulties so far.
I believe that this difficult situation can be overcome together by bringing together the power of the citizens.
And I believe that next year, the opening ceremony will be held to celebrate the opening of Yokohama with you.
Yokohama City and Yokohama City Council will do their best to ensure the safety and security of everyone.
Let's do our best together.
