Last update date April 2, 2021

<Browth>

In the 1930s, when Japan as a whole was experiencing high economic growth, the amount of imports and exports of Yokohama Port increased sharply, and the construction of Yamashita-Futo was proceeding. For this reason, the timber warehouse industry submitted a petition to the The Mayor of Yokohama requesting the establishment of an alternative storage yard. The Yokohama City, which received the petition, established a study group in 1962, and in 1938, the Kanazawa area was the most suitable place for the construction of a storage yard.
Furthermore, in the 1940s, the amount of foreign materials imported increased further in the 1940s, and the Shinyamashita Storage Plant, which has a capacity of 26,000 tons, became too small, so a new lumber port from a comprehensive perspective in the Kanazawa area. We decided to construct a new timber port.

<Construction work>

Construction of Kanazawa Wooden Port was started in 1970, and Yokohama City commissioned a project under the direct control of the country as a dedicated wharf for each material, and Yokohama City constructed the breakwaters and rearranged water surfaces as auxiliary projects. . With the completion of the quay and cargo handling area in 1974, the service started and at the same time, maintenance of marine waste incineration plants was promoted. In 1980, all facilities were completed and construction work was completed.

<In the event of success>

Kanazawa Wooden Port has handled about 150,000 tons of logs per year since the start of operation in 1974, and has been crowded with many timber imported from Southeast Asia, North America, and Russia.
However, since then, the time when raw wood was imported to the era of importing timber from the country of origin was imported, and the amount handled by Kanazawa wood port was gradually decreasing.

<Kanazawa Wood Port in a New Era>

The subsequent trend toward containerization and the decline in timber imports due to stagnant domestic demand, forced the Kanazawa Wood Products Port to change. While the quay is used for various purposes such as car-only ships and building materials, the surface of the storage and rearranged water surfaces are almost unused and have become idle.
