1889–1923
Meiji 22 to Daisho 12

The government has been constructing the port many times since 1889 (Meiji 22) and worked to make it a modern port, so Yokohama Port became the main entrance of Japan as Japan's first international trading port. , The amount of trade has increased every year.

The Osanbashi Wharf and the East and North Waterbanks (Uchibohatei), which are still popular as cruise ships, were built from 1889 (Meiji 22) to 1896 (Meiji 29). The Shinko Wharf, known as Akarengasoko, was built from 1899 (Meiji 32) to 1916 (Daisho 5).

At Shinko Wharf, some of the facilities at that time are still being used.

Furthermore, at this time, factories began to be built on the land facing the sea, and many of the shallow coast from Kawasaki to Kanagawa were reclaimed as factory sites by the private sector, and the Keihin Industrial Zone (Keihin Kogyochitai) was built, but most of the facilities were opened since the Great Kanto Earthquake on September 1, 1923 (Kizudaishinsai Port).
