Old Tokaido and Ukiyo-e

The word "Ukiyo" also means "modern style", and Ukiyo-e is a picture depicting people and landscapes of the Edo period, and is said to have influenced modern Western paintings. Many of them are based on the theme of Tokaido, which has many famous places, and works such as Hiroshige Utagawa's "53rd Tokaido" are famous.
It was also appreciated as a souvenir from Edo to various places.

The palanquins, horses, and travelers traveling to and from the Tokaido are drawn on the front, and Mount Fuji can be seen from a distance through the row of pine trees.

This is the first Tokaido product designed by Hiroshige, and since the version is Yasunaga-do, it depicts Hodogaya-juku in a series commonly called Yasunaga-do version. It depicts scenes of travelers and palanquins coming and going through Shinmachibashi across Katabira River.

It is the Tokaido of the first generation Hiroshige, and since the word "Tokaido" is a slave book, it depicts Hodogaya-juku in a series commonly called the Reisho Tokaido. Katabira River and Shinmachibashi are also depicted here, but it is a snow scene.

It is the Tokaido of the first generation Hiroshige, and since the word "Tokaido" is a line book, it depicts Hodogaya-juku in a series commonly called the Gyosho Tokaido. Katabira River and Shinmachibashi are also depicted here.

It is intended for four hotels in Hodogaya, Tozuka, Fujisawa, and Hiratsuka, as described as "Yojuku Famous Places". It is a scene that goes through the Tokaido all night during the course of Oyama worship, which crosses the sacred sake frame. The mountains that can be seen far away will be the Tanzawa Mountains, including the destination Oyama.

It depicts the situation where the samurai line passes through Hodogaya-juku. Many bonfires and lanterns marked "Hokkagaya-juku" are placed at the eaves of each house, and is the procession departing from the gate in front (Honjin or) in the foreground?

It depicts the scene of Sakaigi Chaya. The era situation in the early Meiji era is skillfully expressed on telegraph lines and rickshaws.

The steep climb of Gontazaka is expressed in shadows on the background, and the front is a scene of a teahouse that is symmetrically bright and slightly humorous.

At the bottom, the scenery of the Tokaido from Hodogaya-juku to Oyama and Fuji is depicted in a slightly humorous style as "Dochu customs", and at the top, it depicts a bird's-eye view style.

The samurai daimyo procession depicts the scene of traveling along the Tokaido near Hodogaya-juku, and Mount Fuji can be seen in the distance.
