1 Total population

The total population of Yokohama City is 3,426,651.

The total population (confirmed number) of Yokohama City as of October 1 according to the 2000 census was 3,426,651, an increase of 119,515, or 3.6%, compared to the previous survey seven years. The population growth rate rose 0.9 points from 2.7% in 1997, the lowest post-war period of 2.7% in 1997, except for 1995 and 22 due to the effects of the war.
Compared to 1920 (422,938 people), 80 years ago when the first survey was conducted, it was about 8.1 times that of 1950 (951,189 people) 50 years ago.
The population density is 7,839 per square meter, an increase of 252 compared to the previous survey.
The population size of the city is the second largest after 8,134,688 in the Tokyo metropolitan area (calculated as one city) out of 672 cities nationwide, 2.7% of the total population (126,925,843), and Kanagawa Prefecture's total population (8,489,974) occupies 40.4%. 2 Population by Administrative District

The population growth rate in Tsuzuki Ward   is 32.8%, and the trend is increasing in central wards.

By administrative district, Kohoku Ward was the largest at 294,305 (8.6% of the city population), followed by Aoba Ward with 270,044 (7.9%) and Tsurumi Ward with 254,103 (7.4%). Meanwhile, the smallest number was 78,320 in Nishi Ward (2.3%).
The population growth rate in Tsuzuki Ward   is particularly high at 32.8%, and the population is rapidly increasing due to moving into New Town. Aoba Ward accounted for 8.5%, Naka Ward accounted for 6.7%, and Midori Ward accounted for 6.5%, and the population growth rate increased mainly in northern cities.
Sakae Ward decreased 3.7%, Isogo Ward decreased 3,553, or 2.1%, and Konan Ward decreased 98, or 0.0%, respectively.
Compared to 2012 years, the population growth rate in Nishi Ward (-1.6% → 3.4%), Naka Ward (0.2% → 6.7%) and Minami Ward (-1.1% → 1.4%) show a tendency to return to urban centers.
In terms of population density, Minami Ward was the highest at 15,459/km2, roughly twice the city average (7,839/km2) and Nishi Ward (11,157/km2) and Konan Ward (11,180/km2) are above 10,000/km2. (Table 2)

3 Population by gender

The population ratio is 102.6

Looking at the population by gender, there are 1,735,392 men, 1,691,259 women, and 44,133 more men. The population ratio (the number of men per 100 women) is 102.6, which is 6.8 points higher than the national average of 95.8 points, but in 1995 it decreased by 1.4 points from 105.3 in two years, and in 12 years it has decreased by 1.3 points, and recently the ratio of women has increased.
In terms of population ratio, Naka Ward was the highest at 110.6, followed by Tsurumi Ward at 109.3, Kanagawa Ward at 106.9 and Kohoku Ward at 105.9. On the other hand, the lowest is 97.9 in Sakae Ward, where the number of women in five wards exceeds the number of men. (Table 2)

4 Population by age
(1) Age 3 Separated Population
Looking at the population by age, the young population under the age of 15 is 474,656 (13.9% of the total population), the working-age population aged 15 to 64 is 2,463,151 (71.9%), and the elderly population aged 65 and over is 477,053 (13.9%).

The elderly population exceeds the young population to 13.9% of the total population.

Looking at the changes in the population by age group after the war, the elderly population was only 32,582 in 1950, but then rapidly increased at a rate of more than 25%, reaching 477,053 in 2000, It has increased 14.6 times over the last 50 years. Compared to the fact that the total population was only 3.6 times between 1950 and 2000, it can be seen how remarkable the increase in the elderly population after the war was. As a result, the elderly population exceeded the young population for the first time since the start of the survey. In addition, the ratio of the total population to the total population was only 3.4% in 1950, but continued to expand with each survey, exceeding 11.0% for the first time in the previous survey, and 2.9 points in 2000 compared to 7 years It is 13.9%, and the aging is progressing at an accelerating rate.

The progress of declining birthrate is slowing

The young population continued to increase from 312,659 in 1950, and exceeded 600,000 in 50 years due to the rise in the birth rate caused by the second baby boom. After that, it peaked at 666,549 in 1955, and decreased by 76,408 (12.2%) from 1960 to 2002, and decreased by 60,086 (10.9%) from 2 to 7 years, and decreased by more than 10% from 2 to 7 years. 6 years. The ratio of the total population in 2000 was 13.9%, which is shrinking to the same level as the elderly population.

The working-age population begins to shrink

The working-age population continued to increase consistently from 605,886 in 1950, but remained a slight increase of 15,543 (0.6%) from 1995 to 2012. The ratio of the total population to the total population has been around 70% since 1965, the highest since the survey started at 74.0% in 1995, but has decreased by 2.1 points in 2012. (Table 4-1, Figure 4)

(2) Population pyramid

The population pyramid is a "two-story building with a long eaves"

As in the whole country, the form of the population pyramid of Motoichi has swelling in the first (51-53 years old) and the second (26-29 years old) baby boom period, but the swelling is large, and the second baby boom period is larger than the first "two-story long with a long eaves" type.

(3) Age composition index

The old age index rose significantly to 100.5.

Looking at the age composition index of Motoichi, the young population index (the number of young populations for 100 working-age population) continued to decline from 51.6 in 1950, and became 31.6 in 40 years. . It temporarily rose to 36.4 in 1950 after the second baby boom, but has declined again since 1955, reaching 19.3 in 2000.
On the other hand, the elderly population index (the number of elderly populations compared to 100 working-age population) was 5 to 6 units in the 1940s and 19.4, the highest value since the start of the survey.
The old age index (the number of elderly populations for 100 young people), which is an indicator of the degree of aging of the population, has been changing from 10 to 20 from 1950 to 45 after the war, but since 1975, it has risen rapidly due to a decline in the young population and an increase in the elderly population, and in 2000, it has increased to 2.30 from 2.
The average age is 40.1 years old, up 1.9 years from 38.2 years in 7 years. (Table 4-2)

(4) Age structure by administrative district

As the population ages throughout the city, the highest percentage of the elderly population is 18.5% in Nishi Ward.

Looking at the proportion of the elderly population by administrative district, Nishi Ward was the highest at 18.5%, followed by Naka Ward at 18.0%, Minami Ward at 17.6%, and Isogo Ward at 15.7%. The lowest figure was 8.1% in Tsuzuki Ward  , followed by 9.7% in Aoba Ward and 12.4% in Kohoku Ward and Midori Ward.
The youngest population is 19.9% in Tsuzuki Ward  , followed by 16.4% in Aoba Ward, 15.2% in Izumi Ward, and 14.9% in Midori Ward and Seya Ward. The lowest percentage was Nishi Ward 10.6%, followed by 11.4% in Naka Ward and 11.8% in Kanagawa Ward and Minami Ward.
In this way, in Motoichi, the proportion of the elderly population is high in the central ward, and the proportion of the young population is high in the northern ward. In addition, the proportion of the elderly population has increased from five years ago in all wards, and the elderly population has grown from four wards (Kanagawa Ward, Nishi Ward, Naka Ward and Minami Ward) to ten wards.
The age composition index shows a similar trend, with the old age index at 173.6 in Nishi Ward up to over 90 in most wards. On the other hand, Tsuzuki Ward   is 40.5 and Aoba Ward is 59.5, which is extremely low in the two northern wards. (Table 4-3)

*The population-intensive district (DID = Densely Inhabited district) is an expansion of the city area due to the merger of municipalities under the Municipal Merger Promotion Act of 1953 and the New Municipal Construction Promotion Act of 1956, and the establishment of a new city. The regional chapters by city and county are not necessarily specified in the national census.
Until the 1990 census, it was set based on the survey area in charge of the census investigator, but since 1995, it has been based on the basic unit area.
Population-intensive districts are areas where basic unit districts with high population density (in principle, population density is 4,000 or more per 1 km2) are adjacent within the boundaries of municipalities, and the population is more than 5,000.

6 marital status

55.5% of women aged between 25 and 29 are unmarried.

The marital status of the population aged 15 and over in 2000 by gender shows that among males aged 15 and over (1,484,181), 521,674 unmarried persons (35.1%) and 869,399 (58.6%) and 40,40,404 (divorce) death of spouse (divorce (death of spouse) On the other hand, divorce, death of spouse, 871,672 (59.9%) and death of spouse (140,533) (death of spouse, 9.7%) and 5,533 (9.7%) and divorcedivorce (9.7%).
Looking at the percentage of marital status by age group, the unmarriage rate is on the rise in most age groups for both men and women, and in recent years, it has risen significantly in young age groups. In particular, the unmarried rate of women is 24.3% for those aged 25 to 29 compared to 1980, 20 years ago. → 55.5%, 9.8% for those aged 30 to 34. → It has risen significantly to 26.6%, which is considered to be one of the factors behind the decline in the birth rate.
In contrast to the unmarried rate, marital rate has been declining among young people, and compared to 1980, 74.6% for women aged 25 to 29. → 42.8% and 71.4% for men aged 30 to 34. → This was down to 52.8%.
The death of spouse rate has risen as the age increases, but the recent growth in life expectancy has led to a decline in all age groups. Compared to 1980, for example, 12.5% of men between the ages of 70 and 74. → 8.2% and women 57.2% → This has declined to 33.3%.
The divorce rate is high among middle-aged and older people, with men aged between 55 and 60 (4.9%) and women aged between 50 and 54 (6.4%). Also, looking at trends in the divorce rate, there is a tendency for each age group to rise. (Tables 6, Figure 6)

The number of general households is 3,382,386, and the average household size per household is 2.50, which has continued to decrease since it fell below three for the first time in 1985 to 2.91. . On the other hand, the number of households such as facilities (hospital inpatients at hospitals, residents of social facilities, students in student dormitories, etc.) is 7,375, and the number of households is 32,474. Compared to 7 years, the number of households has increased by only 4.6%, while the number of households has increased significantly to 17.2%.
Looking at the ratio of general households by household, single-person households were the highest at 29.5%, followed by 25.4% for two-person households, 19.9% for three-person households, and 18.5% for four-person households. More than half of the total number of households with two or less people. Compared to 1995, the number of households has increased in households with three or less, while the number of households with four or more has decreased, and the number of households with four or more has decreased from 20% and less than three households. 3-generation households
・・・・・・62,597・・・・・・4.6・・・・・・

*A 3-generation household refers to a household where the family relationship with the head of the household can determine that three or more generations are living together among grandparents, parents of the head of the household (or spouse of the head of the household), head of the household (or spouse of the head of the household), child (or spouse of the child) and grandchildren. Therefore, it also includes cases where more than 4 generations live. This also includes cases where there is no child (middle generation), such as the head of the household, the head of the household, or the grandchild. On the other hand, it does not include three-generation households with sidelines, such as uncles, head of household and child.

9 Households with elderly relatives

The ratio of the 3rd generation living together dropped sharply

Of the general households (1,353,526 households) in 2000, the number of general households with relatives aged 65 or older (hereinafter referred to as "households with elderly relatives") was 336,993, 73,306 households (27.8%) compared to 1995. It has increased significantly. The ratio of general households to total households increased to 17.9% in 1990, 21.1% in 7, and 24.9% in 2012, and one in four households is households with elderly relatives. .

The survey has been conducted almost every five years since 1920, and the 2000 census is the 17th time.

2. Date of Survey
The 2000 census was conducted as of midnight on October 1, 2000 (hereinafter referred to as "at the time of the survey").

3 Areas of Survey
The 2000 Census was conducted in areas of Japan except for the following islands stipulated in Article 1 of the Census Enforcement Regulations.
(1) Habomai Islands, Shikotan, Kunashir and Etorofu
(2) Takeshima Island located in Goka Village, Oki County, Shimane Prefecture

4 Targets of Survey
The 2000 Census was conducted on those who live permanently in Japan at the time of the survey. Here, "residential person" means a person who has lived or is supposed to live in the house for more than three months, and has lived or is supposed to live for more than three months. Those who do not have a house were considered "residents" at the place where they were at the time of the survey.

5. Matters to be investigated
In the 2000 census, a total of 22 items were surveyed, including 16 items related to household members, such as gender and date of birth, and 6 items related to households such as household types and number of household members.

6 Method of Survey
The 2000 census was conducted based on the flow of the General Affairs Agency (Statistics Bureau / Statistics Center)-Prefectures-Municipalities-Census Instructors-Census Investigators.
The survey was conducted by a method in which approximately 830,000 census members appointed by the Commissioner of the General Affairs Agency (approximately 23,000 in Motoichi) distributed and collected questionnaires for each household. In addition, the survey form was filled out by households in principle.

1 As the result figures are rounded to the nearest unit of the table, the total number and breakdown do not necessarily match the total.

2. “-” in Table 2 is no or no applicable number.…"is an unknown number.

3 The area used to calculate the population density is based on the “Area Adjustment by Prefecture, Municipalities, Municipalities, Municipalities,” published by the Geographical Survey Institute of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Therefore, it may not match the city area and population density posted in the population news.

4 A report containing the statistical table of the results of the first basic tabulation will be issued by the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications at a later date, `` 2000 National Census Report Volume 2 Gender, Age, and marital status of population, household composition and residence status It will be published as "Kanagawa Prefecture, 2 prefectures and municipalities".
