About drop of parts from US military helicopter (emergency request)

Last Updated March 8, 2019

On February 3, 2011, a helicopter belonging to the U.S. Navy No. 14 anti-submarine helicopter squadron dropped equipment during flight. The falling location is adjacent to a residential area, and if you make a mistake, it is a serious accident that can be fatal.
The Council has repeatedly requested the establishment of flight safety measures and thorough maintenance inspections every time there is an opportunity, but in Kanagawa Prefecture, Atsugi Base in January and March 2010 Accidents such as parts fall by aircraft belonging to belong have occurred continuously. Despite the fact that measures to prevent recurrence were presented by the Japan-U.S. Joint Committee in October of the same year, this situation has caused distrust in the safety management of U.S. military aircraft. I am very sorry.
In your position, I strongly request that you take all possible measures (apply to the U.S. military) so that a U.S. military aircraft accidents do not occur in the future.

※() The inside is inserted into the request to the Japanese side.

1 Immediately investigate the cause of this accident and establish effective recurrence prevention measures. In addition, these matters shall be announced promptly.
2 Ensure that maintenance and inspection of aircraft are carried out, and strive to ensure thorough safety management of aircraft.
