Common "Sister School Study Abroad Program" and "Individual Study Abroad"

Are any expenses related to studying abroad eligible for assistance?
A

The following expenses required for studying abroad or training overseas are eligible for assistance. However, expenses paid by the end of February of the application year will be covered.

(1) Airfare (one round trip to the final destination)
(2) Domestic transportation fares to the airport (for one round trip). A fixed amount of 500 yen one way to Haneda Airport and 2,000 yen one way to Narita Airport. )
(3) Airport tax, fuel surcharge, departure procedures expenses
(4) Expenses for obtaining visa (visa) and passport (passport) (excluding procedural agency fees)
(5) Tuition fees, facility usage fees, etc. paid to foreign high schools
(6) Overseas travel insurance premiums
(7) Dormitory expenses or homestay expenses paid to the host family
(8) Participate in study abroad projects organized by other local governments, schools, private organizations, etc.
   (1) Project participation costs including part or all of the costs listed in (7) to (7)

※These expenses do not include expenses related to private activities other than academics, such as screening fees for becoming a participant in the study abroad project (such as examination fees), expenses incurred before deciding to study abroad, pocket money at the study abroad destination, transportation expenses at the study abroad destination, and pre-language training expenses.

When is the announcement of the grant decision?

If it is an annual schedule, we will notify applicants in writing by mid-July.

Are students who have decided to receive subsidies or scholarships from other organizations also eligible?
A

It is eligible.
In addition, those who have received assistance from the youth support project aiming for the world, those who are expected to receive assistance after receiving a decision of assistance are not eligible.

Participate in the exchange program of the high school you are attending. High schools are applying for the "Sister School Study Abroad Program", so there is a possibility that I will receive a subsidy. Can I apply for "Individual Study Abroad" at the same time?
A

It is possible. However, those who have been subsidized by the youth support project aiming for the world or those who are expected to receive assistance after receiving a decision of assistance are not eligible, so "Sister School Study Abroad Program" and "Individual Study Abroad" Can not be eligible for both assistance.
In that case, only "Individual Study Abroad" will be eligible for assistance.

Study Abroad Program for Sister Schools

The child is a high school student living in the city and participates in overseas training hosted by the school. Please tell me how to apply for a study abroad program at your sister school.
A

High schools or civic groups in the city can apply for study abroad programs such as sister schools. You can't apply by yourself.
In addition, after the study abroad program is selected, the high school or citizen's organization to apply will determine who of the participants of the program will be eligible for this grant.

What should I do to get my high school to apply?

Please contact the high school you belong to.

Is it possible to separate the grant from other students in the program?
A

I can't do it. It is necessary to select high school students who will be eligible for further subsidies from the program dispatched students.
One of the screening criteria is whether the target high school students are widely recruited in the city or on campus, and whether they are properly evaluated and selected based on their grades and motivation.

Is it only described in the second form (documents showing cooperation and exchange results with foreign high schools, etc.) about the other party (local) high school of the program to be applied for this time?

The application guidelines states that "city high school students dispatched by the program will cooperate in widely announcing the results of overseas training and studying abroad to citizens at the request of Yokohama City" (page 2). Do you need cooperation as a civic group and a high school?
A

Can one high school or organization apply for multiple study abroad programs as study abroad programs at sister schools?
A

If high school students are recruited and selected for each program, and if they are implemented separately, you can apply for multiple programs.

Did the overseas study abroad system for more than 91 days that existed until FY2017 (2017) disappear?
A

From fiscal 2018, the study abroad programs for sister schools have been integrated into those for study abroad periods of 7 days or more. If you are studying abroad for about one year in a study abroad program at a sister school, you can also apply for an individual study abroad program. (However, if both pass as a result of the examination, only "individual study abroad" will be eligible for assistance.)

Students who graduated from a Japanese junior high school do not enter a Japanese high school but study abroad at a foreign high school. Is it eligible?
A

No, it's not eligible. High school students living or studying in the city are eligible.

I have met the application requirements, but I am already overseas. Is it eligible?
A

If you leave after April 1 of the recruitment year, you will be eligible.
However, the selection process includes conducting an interview in Yokohama City at the date and time specified by Motoichi, and those who have not received an interview will not be eligible for the selection.

I have decided to study abroad after April of next year. Is it eligible?
A

Those departing by the end of the following fiscal year (March 31) of the application year are eligible. However, please note that the expenses paid by the end of February of the application year will be eligible for assistance.

Use the program of a private study abroad organization. Is the selection fee eligible for assistance?
A

Expenses incurred before the decision to study abroad, such as screening fees (examination fees), pre-language training fees, etc. are not eligible for assistance.

What is "approximately one year"?
A

Please consider the basic principle of completing the curriculum for one year at your destination.
