2024 Individual Study Abroad

What is an individual study abroad?

Recruitment that Yokohama City will issue a subsidy (up to 400,000 yen) for studying abroad expenses for students enrolled in high schools in Yokohama city and students living in the city and enrolled in high schools outside the city It is a frame. Individuals can apply, but you need to check the contents at the high school where you are enrolled and submit it from the school.

※High school, etc.…High school, secondary school (second half), special support school (high school), technical college (first to third grades) or vocational school (high school)
※Lives in the city: Please consult with the Family Registry Division of each ward regarding the handling of resident certificate if you live outside the city.

Number of applicants

 We are looking for 10 to 20 people.

Eligibility for application

Those who meet all of the following.
However, those who have been subsidized in this project so far (including those who have received a decision on assistance and are expected to receive assistance) are not eligible.

1 Students enrolled in high schools in the city, or students who live in the city and are enrolled in high schools outside the city

2 The study period is approximately one year.

3. Health condition that does not interfere with studying abroad

4 Have an interest in international understanding and international exchange, and willingness to contribute to mutual understanding and friendship with overseas countries and regions

5 Have been recommended by the principal of a high school or other school in which you are enrolled.

Eligible study abroad

1 Study abroad for approximately one year for regular commuting to a regular secondary education institution in a foreign country.
2 Departures between April 1, 1960 and March 31, 2008
  ※However, expenses paid by Friday, February 28, 2025 are eligible for assistance.

Documents to be submitted [Individual Study Abroad]

1 Youth support business application (9th style) aiming at Yokohama-shi world (word: 31KB)

2 A schedule that shows the period of study abroad and activities at the destination.

3 Leaflets, etc. that gives an overview of the educational institution where you study abroad

4 A copy of a document that shows the amount and breakdown of the subsidized expenses and the timing of payment of expenses

5. If you have received scholarships related to study abroad, a copy of a document that shows the amount of scholarships, etc. to be paid and the timing of payment.

6 Copy of documents proving that you are allowed to study abroad in a foreign high school (if you are unable to submit it at the time of application, submit it as soon as it is obtained.)

7 Yokohama-shi youth support business recommendation book (the tenth style) aiming at the world of Yokohama (word: 26KB)

8 Composition on Study Abroad (Form No. 11) (word: 41KB) ※Make sure that the student himself prepares
  Japanese essays in 1,000 to 1,200 characters
  For the following three items, please fill in about 300 to 400 characters for each item.
  ・About the purpose, motivation, preparation and attitude of studying abroad
  ・Future initiatives that make use of study abroad experience
  ・How can I return my study abroad experience to the city and the surroundings after returning to Japan?
