In order to realize a decarbonized society, Yokohama City is working to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% (compared to fiscal 2013) by fiscal 2030.
As part of this initiative, Transportation Bureau will use non-fossil certificates* generated from incineration plants in Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau as electricity for the Green Line to procure electricity with virtually zero CO2 emissions. Through this initiative, the Green Line will start operating on April 1, 2023 with electricity with virtually zero CO2 emissions.

※Non-fossil Certificates
A certificate issued by a national certification body as a proof of electricity (zero CO2 emissions) that does not use fossil fuels such as oil. If this certificate is combined with the power generated at a thermal power plant or the like, it can be regarded as "electricity with zero CO2 emissions."
