Last Updated January 23, 2024
This event has ended.
While young people are pointed out that young people are separated from science and technology and science, the Yokohama City Industrial Technology Support Center is implementing initiatives to make the children who will lead the future aware of the joy of science.
We will inform you of the programs implemented by the Yokohama Industrial Technology Support Center at Kanagawa Science Summer sponsored by Kanagawa Prefecture on this page.
We look forward to your participation.

2022 (21st) Kanagawa Science Summer Implementation Report
On August 16, 2022, "Let's see the sound using salt!" Was held at the Yokohama Industrial Technology Support Center. We received many applications with a capacity of 18 people, but due to infection prevention measures and space limitations, we decided to draw lots. I'm sorry to all those who were unable to participate.
On the day, I first learned about the sound resonance, and then made a flute using straws and plastic bottles. At first I had a hard time making sound, but gradually I became able to grasp the tricks and blow well. When I blow the whistle at the salt on the black vinyl, I could observe the salt vibrates and bounced. You may have changed the length of the straw flute to listen to the sound, observe how the salt jump, and there were many discoveries.
This center was the first science summer in three years, and it was a fun day to see the children's energetic appearance after a long absence.
I learned about the wave of sound
Let's make a whistle with a straw!
Can you see the sound?
2022 (21st) Kanagawa Science Summer Event
Strict lottery by the director of the Industrial Technology Support Center
"Let's see the sound using salt!" A lottery for participants was held.
Since there were applications that exceeded the capacity, a strict lottery was held.
The lottery results were notified by e-mail on August 3 (Wednesday).
Thank you very much for your participation.
Please note that it may be canceled depending on the situation of the new coronavirus.
In case of cancellation, participants will be notified by e-mail.
Let's see the sound using salt!
[Content]
High sound, low sound, in this experience, you can see that the sound is air vibration, and that vibrations cause the resonance of the membrane.
We make a flute with a straw, the vibration of the air changes according to the sound, and the resonance changes depending on the sound, and the way the salt particles jump.

Past implementation report
Date of Date | Program name | Contents |
---|---|---|
2021 | Paper Tower Challenge | Due to the declaration of a state of emergency due to the spread of COVID-19, the event has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to everyone who applied. |
2019 | We made a bridge with 15 sheets of paper and glue, and with only these rules, we freely thought about how heavy we could withstand the weight of any team. The theme was to enhance the imagination of manufacturing, such as finding and improving problems by shaping ideas and improving them. | |
2018 | Mini sled challenge! | Always put the pilot on the prepared sledging somewhere and slide instead of rolling. Based on these rules, we freely came up with ideas, cooperated with the team, and made sleds that slide faster than any team to enhance the imagination of manufacturing. |
2017 | A camera obscura Let's make it! | The theme was to learn about the nature of light, the work of mirrors and lenses, and the basic principles of cameras while producing a camera obscura using cylinders, mirrors, and lenses. |
2016 | A camera obscura Let's make it! | The theme was to learn about the nature of light, the work of mirrors and lenses, and the basic principles of cameras while producing a camera obscura using cylinders, mirrors, and lenses. |
2015 | A Galileo thermometer Let's make it! | We made a float by stuffing beads of various sizes in small bottles to make floats, and produced a Galileo thermometer that floats and sinks due to changes in temperature. Through work, I learned about the relationship between density of matter and temperature. |
2014 | A Galileo thermometer Let's make it! | The theme was to learn about the relationship between density and temperature of substances such as water and temperature while creating a Galileo thermometer that floats and sinks due to changes in temperature, the theme was to learn about the relationship between density and temperature of water and other substances. |
2013 | Light and colour Mysterious relationship | The theme was to observe the spectroscopy of light using prisms made of agar, and to learn about the close relationship between light and color while making UV checkers using special paints that emit color when exposed to sunlight. |
2012 | A great shape of a living thing | Using familiar objects such as origami and plant leaves, the theme was to learn about the fun of natural science while learning about "hydration" that pops water into water. |
2011 | With the power of color | The theme was to create solar cells using the colored water of familiar plants, and the theme was to have fun thinking about electricity, and to make children realize the fun of science. |
