“Global Base City,” a startup ecosystem base that competes with the world
Last Updated July 11, 2023
Global Base City
Yokohama City was selected as a "Global Base City" as a member of the Startup Ecosystem Tokyo Consortium, in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, local governments, companies, and organizations, for the "Strategy for Establishing World-leading Start-up Ecosystem Bases*1", which was publicly recruited by the government (Cabinet Office).
In the future, with the support of the government, we will make the most of the resources and potential of the city, aim to produce startups that are active in the world, and promote further initiatives.
※1 “Strategy for the formation of a world-class startup ecosystem base”
We aim to form and develop a Japanese-style startup ecosystem base that is comparable to the world by making use of Japan's strengths such as outstanding human resources, research and development capabilities, corporate activities, and funds. To this end, in cities with a certain concentration and potential, local governments, universities, private organizations, etc. will certify base formation plans to work on the formation of a startup ecosystem, and provide support to the base cities by the government and private supporters.
The government has selected four locations nationwide as global hub cities.
Global Base City
- Start-up Ecosystem Tokyo Consortium (Tokyo, Shibuya-ku, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Ibaraki, Tsukuba, Chiba, etc.)
- Central Japan Startup Ecosystem Consortium (Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya City, Hamamatsu City, etc.)
- Osaka / Kyoto / Hyogo Kobe Consortium (Osaka, Osaka, Kyoto, Kyoto, Hyogo, Kobe, etc.)
- Fukuoka Startup Consortium (Fukuoka City, etc.)
