Overview of the harbor area

Ports play various roles as part of the city, such as logistics, production, and relaxation.
In order to fulfill these roles, a certain water area and the land area behind it must be integrated.
Therefore, it is the "Rinko District" that designates such land areas based on the City Planning Act.

When designated as a harbor area

Buildings that do not meet the purpose of the division cannot be constructed

In Yokohama City, four subdivisions have been set up in the harbor area: commercial port ward, industrial Minato-ku, Marina Minato-ku, and Shukei Kosei Minato-ku, and the `` Ordinance on Regulations on Buildings in Branch Areas in Yokohama Port Harbor Area '' Prohibits the construction of structures and changes in uses that do not meet the purpose of the division.

Designation of divisions within the Yokohama Port Harbor Area

A notification is required for certain actions.

In accordance with Article 38-2 of the Port and Harbor Law, when establishing or expanding factories or business establishments with a certain size or more (total floor area of 2,500 m2 or more or site area of 5,000 m2 or more) in the harbor area, water facilities, canals, When constructing or improving irrigation or drainage, waste treatment facilities, please notify the following at least 60 days before the start of the start of construction.

  1. Location, type and site area, floor area
  2. Amount of cargo and transportation plan associated with business activities
  3. Amount of waste generated from business activities and treatment plan

If these contents are not appropriate in light of the port plan or if there is a significant problem with port use or conservation, the plan may be changed.

Procedure for construction of structures in the harbor area

Notification of acts in the harbor area (Article 38-2 of the Port and Harbor Act)

This notification is required when establishing or expanding a factory or business site for a certain scale or more (site area of 5,000 m2 or more or floor area of 2,500 m2 or more) in the harbor area.

Flow of Notification

  1. Consult with Port and Harbor Bureau Port Administration Division about construction plans
  2. Confirmation of contents of submitted documents (provisional submission)
  3. Submission (up to 60 days before the start of construction)
  4. (Only within 60 days from the date of receipt of the notification, if it is found that it does not conform to the standards stipulated by law, we may recommend a change in the plan.)
