Public building ceiling fallout prevention project

Last Updated March 31, 2024

In the Great East Japan Earthquake, the revised Building Standards Law Enforcement Order was enforced in April 2014 following the large number of ceilings of buildings with large-scale spaces falling off. As a result, it is required that specific ceilings (* see below) when building a new building conform to the new standards On the other hand, certain ceilings of existing facilities are not retrospective to the new standards, but they are treated as existing ineligible.
Therefore, Yokohama City has decided to renovate all specified ceilings, such as existing ineligible citizen use facilities, etc., so that the safety of citizens and fulfill the role of disaster prevention functions can be fully fulfilled in the event of a disaster. We will try to reduce the damage caused by falling off. In order to promote this steadily and systematically, we have formulated the "Yokohama City Public Building Ceiling Leave Measures Business Plan".

What is a specific ceiling?

Hanging ceilings with a ceiling height of more than 6m, its horizontal projection area exceeds 200m2, and the weight of the ceiling member exceeds 2kg / m2.
