Hodogaya fire department, where history and newness coexist
In order to deliver the safety and security of citizens, we are constantly improving our skills and knowledge to respond to any possible disaster every day.
Please take a look at the daily life of the staff's realistic work!
Overview
Hodogaya Ward is located almost in the middle of Yokohama City and consists of two rivers, Katabira River and Ima Igawa, and the rugged hills surrounding it, and is a large park such as Prefectural Hodogaya Park, elementary school student Amusement Park, and Tokiwa Park.
Despite its location close to the city center, such as Yokohama Station and Kannai-District, and a population of over 200,000 people, relatively large amounts of water and greenery remain.
In addition, when the Tokaido inn station and horseback system was established in 1601, Hodogaya-juku became a post town officially recognized by the Shogunate and Honjin was set up, so it flourished as a post town. Gontazaka, which was said to be the first difficult place after leaving Edo, is also depicted in Ukiyo-e. Today, Gontazaka's name has become known nationwide as a difficult spot for Hakone Ekiden during the New Year.
In this way, in addition to the historic cityscape, the Yokohama Business Park (YBP), which consists of three high-rise buildings, has become a forest in recent years, adding a new expression to the ward as a business base. Outdoor sculptures are also placed on the site of YBP, and are often used in shooting TV dramas.
In addition, it is a ward full of water and greenery, history and humanity, such as the bustle of the shopping district and the promotion of "Hana no Machiya" by the inhabitants of the ward.
Given these regional characteristics, Hodogaya fire department moved from Kawabe-cho to Kobe-cho in February 2020, and placed approximately 160 employees and 30 fire trucks at the headquarters and four fire departments in Nishiya, Imai, Honjin and Gontazaka to respond quickly to any disaster.
