Aoba Ward was born out of Kohoku Ward and Midori Ward on November 6, 1994 after reorganization of administrative districts. Located in the northwestern part of Yokohama City, it borders Tsuzuki Ward   to the east, Machida to the west, Midori Ward to the south, and Kawasaki in the north. Approximately 310,000 people live in the beautiful cityscape that has been planned by land readjustment. The ward name was decided by open call for participants with the wish of becoming a ward that grows gently for the future so that young buds can grow vigorously. The name of the town is characterized by many names associated with the name of the plant.
There are many hills in terms of terrain, and rural scenery spreads along the Tsurumi River, which flows through the center of the ward. In addition, the number of street trees and the number of parks are the first in the city (as of March 31, 2019) and is a green ward.
Aoba fire department has a total of 29 fire-fighting vehicles and approximately 210 employees at the headquarters and six branch offices in Motoishikawa, Kamoshida, Susukino, Eda, Aobadai and Nara.
