About evacuation measures in tsunami

Last Updated January 1, 2024

Based on lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011, Yokohama City has been promoting various initiatives to ensure the safety of citizens from the tsunami disaster, which is not known when it will occur.
It is difficult for tsunami to predict the outbreak in advance. Always check the evacuation sites and evacuation time, and if you feel a large or long shaking caused by an earthquake, or if you know information such as a tsunami warning, call for evacuation around you and evacuate to a higher place sooner. " And please do not leave a safe place until the tsunami warning is released.

If there is a possibility of a tsunami outbreak, try to evacuate to "not distant places" or "high places". Also, please check in advance the evacuation facilities in tsunami as one of the evacuation sites.

tsunami, Kanagawa Prefecture

Inundation in tsunami, Kanagawa Prefecture (March 2015)

Of the tsunami envisaged by Kanagawa Prefecture in March 2012, the city of Yokohama is implementing measures against the tsunami as a model of the tsunami caused by the Keicho era earthquake.
In addition, based on the geological prosecution presented by the Cabinet Office's “Earthquake Model Study Group” in December 2013, Kanagawa Prefecture created a drawing that superimposed the “Inundation Area” and “Inundation depth” for the five earthquakes, and set it as “tsunami Inundation Estimation” in March 2015.
It will be posted as a reference.
