Installation of microchips and information registration
From June 1, 2022, the installation and registration of microchips for dogs and cats sold are required.
General owners are obliged to wear microchips. However, if a new microchip is attached to a dog or cat bred at home, or if an individual that has already been equipped with a microchip has been transferred, the system of the designated registration organization designated by the Minister of the Environment Registration or change registration is mandatory.
Specifically, please see about attachment of microchip and information registration of Yokohama animal protection center.
Installation of microchips and information registration
Registration of domestic dogs is valid for dogs registered after April 1995 throughout the country for a lifetime.
If the owner's name or dog's name changes, the owner changes, or the Address land changes (if you move), you will need to change it.
Please report the change at the rabies prevention department where you live (relocation).
If you have been transferred to Tsuzuki Ward , please go to the window at the Environmental Sanitation Section Health Sanitation Division Tsuzuki, Health and Welfare Center.
What is required for the change procedure
- dog's license tag issued in the previous Address area
- rabies vaccination Certificate issued in that year
- If you have received an injection vote in the previous Address area, you will receive an injection vote for that year.
If you bring the dog's license tag in the previous Address area, you can exchange it for free with dog's license tag in Yokohama.
If you have lost your dog's license tag, you will need to re-issue dog's license tag, which costs 1600 yen.
There is no charge for changes that do not involve the reissuance of dog's license tag.
Also, if you have not received the injection vote for that year in the previous Address area, please complete the delivery procedure at the same time. The fee is 550 yen.
In addition, in the case of injection not inoculated, please report at window.
※Attention※
Dogs with microchip at least 91 days old may be registered with local governments other than Yokohama. As you confirm the presence or absence of registration, please refer to Yokohama-shi animal protection center.

If your dog goes missing, first look for your neighborhood, your usual walking location, or where your dog prefers. At the same time, please contact the nearest ward office or police department as soon as possible with the location and characteristics of the dog lost. The ward office can provide information about dogs protected in the ward. Also, it may be protected by citizens and veterinary hospitals, so search for all your findings.
If you put a dog's license tag or an injection slip on your dog, you can contact the registered owner from the ward office if you are protected. Be sure to attach dog's license tag and injection slips to your dog in case you get lost.
There are surprisingly few people who can accurately tell the characteristics of their dog without looking at the dog. Keep photos and records in case of emergency.
