Are you ready for pet measures in the event of a disaster? Please cooperate with the pet disaster prevention questionnaire-

In the event of a disaster, it is the owner who can protect your precious pet. Be prepared on a daily basis in case of emergency.

Last update date August 22, 2023

Please cooperate with the "Questionnaire" on pet preparation in case of disaster.

Tsuzuki Ward   is promoting awareness of pet measures in the event of a disaster. Please cooperate with the questionnaire survey "2023 Pet Disaster Prevention Questionnaire" (outside site) (outside site) (outside site) to make it a better approach and to review your preparations.

● In case of storm and flood damage - toward the owner Since typhoons and other storms and floods can be predicted in advance, it is important to prepare in advance so that they can evacuate as soon as evacuation is necessary.

1 Regarding evacuation of pets

Temporary pets are kept in evacuation sites during storms and floods are separate from human evacuation spaces.
Please put the cage provided by the owner at the breeding area.
Please note that even in a covered area, rain and wind may hit depending on the situation.
In addition, please prepare items other than cages (water, pet food, etc.) necessary for temporary breeding as necessary.
* Pets that can be accepted at shelters are dogs, cats, and other small animals (small birds, rabbits, hamsters, etc.).
* Specific animals (dangerous animals) and animals designated as specific aliens cannot be accepted at evacuation centers due to safety management.

Preparation for about 2 days

Depending on the scale of the disaster and evacuation sites, evacuation sites (temporary pet breeding place) is not always the best place for pets.
In addition, evacuation with a pet (accompany evacuation) is expected to be very difficult after the rain and wind becomes severe.
For these reasons, it is important to secure a temporary storage place for pets and to make an evacuation action plan, especially in preparation for disasters.

3 Securing a temporary storage destination for pets

It is very difficult to find a temporary storage destination after a disaster occurs, so make adjustments in advance.

<Example of a temporary storage destination>

① Relatives and acquaintances whose pets are used to

② Animal hospital

③ Pet hotels and private sector facilities

● In the event of an earthquake-To the owner- Think about measures on a daily basis in case of a sudden disaster.

1 Let's clearly indicate the owner for pets

In the event of a disaster, you may be separated from your pet.
Make sure the owner knows, such as attaching a dog dog's license tag, rabies vaccination vote (in the case of a dog), a lost tag, etc. on the collar, or wearing a microchip.

Let's practice 2.

When evacuating with your pet, be sure to provide basic training so as not to disturb others.

① Get used to cages and carrybacks on a daily basis.

② Get used to contact with humans and other animals.

③ Be able to excrete in a designated place.

④ Avoid chewing or barking.

3. Let's manage your health

Pay attention to your pet's health on a daily basis, such as rabies vaccination (for dogs), vaccination to prevent illness, and extermination of ticks and fleas.
In addition, make a note of the vaccination history, medication history, etc. in your pet notebook.

4 Prepare emergency supplies for pets

Oh Food, water, medicine (5 days or more)

Oh Spare collars and lead

Oh Toilet supplies (pet sheets, newspaper, toilet paper)

Oh Toys, brushes, wet tissue

Oh Pet notebook

Oh Cages and carry case

5 Let's find a temporary storage place for pets.

Suddenly put in a place you don't know, your pet will be very stressful.
Find a place where pets can be safe on a daily basis, such as relatives and acquaintances, veterinary hospitals, pet hotels, pet shops, etc.

● Neighborhood Association/Neighborhood Associations~

In the event of a major disaster in the past, there were many cases where survivors carrying pets was evacuated to evacuation sites.
In the event of a disaster, be prepared for normal times, such as setting up a temporary breeding place for pets and establishing rules for accepting pets so that major confusion does not occur.
The ward office Health Sanitation Division provides support for the creation of rules in each evacuation shelter.
