Yokohama and Okinawa collaborate to promote marine environmental protection!

This time, in Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama, we will hold the "Tsurumi / Churaumi Exhibition 2023" with the main theme of "maritime environmental protection" in cooperation with companies in Yokohama and Okinawa.
"3D Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium" where you can experience the large aquarium of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium where whale sharks swim, and a teacher who knows the sea well comes to Tsurumi from Okinawa to carry out "special classes on sea creatures", There are plenty of events where you can experience "richness of the sea and the importance of the sea! In addition, we also offer workshops that deal with various sea-related issues!
Participate in this event and experience the wonderfulness of the sea, and at the same time thinking about "how to protect the rich sea" and "what can I do to protect the sea?" Why don't you try it?

【1】 3D Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

Underwater video of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium "Kuroshio Sea" large aquarium will be screened in 3D.
・Fish such as whale sharks and manta are popping out in front of you in 3D.
・You can learn about biodiversity and the marine environment while enjoying the charm of the sea and the creatures that live there.

You do not need to apply in advance. Please come directly to the venue on the day of the event.

【2】 Special class by "Umi no Teacher"

・Do you know what the aquarium's popular people, sharks and dolphins live in the sea? They feed and communicate with amazing abilities that are different from humans. If you go to the aquarium after knowing the abilities and appearance of such sharks and dolphins, you will definitely like the "sea" and "creatures" even more!
・Experts from Okinawan seas will explain sea creatures in an easy-to-understand manner.

"Let's learn and observe microplastics!" Presented by Yokohama City Institute of Environmental Science

Date and time: Feb. 11 (Sat.) 14:00-15:00
Participation fee: Free of charge
Capacity: 20 people

・Explanation of microplastics and sample collection experience will be provided.
・Study the microplastic and plastic waste problem in the environment and think together about what we can do to prevent environmental pollution caused by microplastics and plastic waste.

"Let's make an original key chain using marine plastic waste as a material"-Presented by Techno Lab Co., Ltd.

Date and time: Sunday, February 12 14:00-15:00
Participation fee: 1,500 yen (tax included) / 1 person
Capacity: 20 people

・A lot of marine plastic waste is drifting ashore on the coast of Japan. Techno Lab, a plastic manufacturer, has developed a unique technology to utilize the marine waste as a material. This is a workshop where you can experience the simplified version.
・We select marine litter collected in various parts of Japan to make key chains. Depending on the type of choice, it will be finished in different colors and patterns.
・Through this experience, you will think about what kind of marine plastic garbage is actually flowing into Japan and how to deal with plastic in the future.

Coral Seedling Experience Workshop -Presented by OSC Co., Ltd.

Participation fee: 5,000 yen (tax included) / 1 person
Limited to the first 30 people (applications are always accepted during the event.)

・In order to support the “fishing ground regeneration (corral reef regeneration) activities” undertaken by the Okinawa Prefecture Kunigami Fishery Cooperative, purchase a plate for coral seedling.
・Return the participant's plate with the name and message to the environment and nature conservation will be returned to Okinawa, attach coral seedlings, and transplant them to the Okinawan sea (Special Coral Aquaculture Zone).
・According to the process and growth, the situation will be reported to the purchaser by e-mail or other means. When you travel to Okinawa someday, you may be able to see how the corals you have supported are growing.

【4】 Panel display on environmental protection

Tsurumi-Aiming for Sustainable Tsurumi River-(Yokohama City Tsurumi Elementary School)

The Tsurumi River has the appeal of having many creatures, as well as the problem of wanting to manage garbage. We hold aquarium = Tsurusui which gathered creatures of Tsurumi River to let people of town know charm and problem of river. Please come and visit the corner where you can enjoy learning through exhibitions and games.
