①kitchen garbage composting at home

Composting flow

1 We will hand the bag type compost necessary for composting from the ward office. Put the base material (a material that promotes fermentation of kitchen garbage) into bag-shaped compost.

2 Add kitchen garbage and stir. It is enough to put up to 3 cups of tea bowls per day (about 400g) per day. You don't have to stir when kitchen garbage wasn't out.

3 Repeat and stirring kitchen garbage for about two months.

4 After the kitchen garbage input period, ripen for about 3 weeks to complete the compost.

②Making flower beds in Seya Hongo Park using the finished compost

※The photo shows a flower bed using compost created last year.

The completed compost will be used to create flower beds in Seya Hongo Park.
After the maintenance of the flower bed, a bulb planting event will be held at a later date!

"Can I do composting?" To those who are worried about participating

"What is compost?" "What kind of kitchen garbage should I put in?" "I'm worried that I can do it because I haven't done composting at all."

We will answer the concerns and questions of those who are not sure about participating in the project!

 FAQs
What is Compost?

A container that fermentes and decomposes kitchen garbage using the action of microorganisms.
This time, it will be a bag type that is easy to carry and does not take up space.

Where can I put the compost?

Place it in a well-ventilated outdoor area, such as in a garden or veranda.
Bag-shaped compost is not large in size (width 50cm x 21cm deep x 37cm high) and does not take up space, so it can be practiced on small veranda.

What can I put in kitchen garbage? Also, what can't be done?

Vegetable waste, egg shells, meat and fish, coffee / tea husks, sweets, etc. can be put. In addition, you can put leftovers, expired foodstuffs, expiration dates and moldy are turned into compost!
Shells, chestnut skins, corn cores and skins are not decomposed, or are slow decomposed, and are not recommended. Items that cannot be put in are flowers, grass, fallen leaves, pet droppings, etc.

There's a stir when I put in kitchen garbage. Do I have to stir every day? Stir inside the compost when you put kitchen garbage. If you are absent on a business trip or travel, or if you are out of kitchen garbage, you do not need to mix.
Is the smell okay?

In accordance with the input and usage of kitchen garbage, the smell of compost placed outdoors or on the veranda will not enter the room at home, nor will it cause annoyance to the neighborhood.
Rather, composting reduces the amount of kitchen garbage discarded, kitchen garbage also helps prevent spoilage odor in kitchens and recycle bins.

I have never used compost at all, but can even beginners do it easily?

Just add kitchen garbage and mix, suitable for beginners can easily. In addition, we will hold start-up courses and follow-up courses to support progress so that even beginners can work with peace of mind.
In addition, those who cannot participate in the course can consult with the instructor on SNS.

Can I get the bag-shaped compost I handed over as it is?

After this project, only those who want to continue using bag-type compost will be given as it is. However, if the base material for bag-type compost will be continued after this project, it is necessary for participants to prepare the base material for bag-type compost.
Also, if you do not wish to continue, you will be asked to return the bag type compost at the end of this project.

Last year's lecture and flower bed making

Here are photos of the "kitchen garbage Composting Project" conducted last year!
The following two sheets are the state of the course. From the use of bag-type compost to follow up on the progress of composting, we will conduct a total of three times this year.

The two photos below are photos of flower beds made using the completed compost. Last year, we planted tulip bulbs on the flower bed of the pedestrian deck at Mitsukyo Station.

There is a great tulip in spring! This year, the place where the completed compost will be used will be moved to Seya Hongo Park, but as in last year, we plan to plant tulips.
