About tuberculosis
Last Updated April 6, 2021
In Minami Health and Welfare Center, we receive consultations on tuberculosis treatment and family health.
According to the Infectious Diseases Control Law, doctors notify Health and Welfare Center when they diagnose tuberculosis. Based on the notification, the public health nurse in charge is consulting.
- We provide medication support so that we can understand the disease correctly and recover quickly.
- We provide consultation and medical examinations to see if there are any infected people around you.
Tuberculosis is a modern disease.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Even now, about 600 people die each year in the city, and about 40 people die. However, taking drugs that are effective for Mycobacterium tuberculosis increased the probability of healing.
If you have symptoms such as coughing or sputum continuing for more than 2 weeks, general malaise or low-grade fever, consult a medical institution as soon as possible.
Minami Ward is a region with a high incidence of tuberculosis in the city. In Minami Health and Welfare Center, we receive inquiries about tuberculosis and consultation with patients themselves and their families.

So that medications can be continued…
To treat tuberculosis, multiple drugs must be taken daily for a fixed period of time (more than 6 months).
Subjective symptoms such as coughs, sputums, and low-grade fever subside in one to two months, but if you stop taking the medicine without permission, or if you do not take the medicine, Mycobacterium tuberculosis will resist the medicine. It becomes "resistant bacteria" and the medicine does not work.
Even so, it is hard to keep taking medicine every day without subjective symptoms. In Minami Health and Welfare Center, public health nurses in charge provide assistance through interviews, telephone calls, and visits, so that they can continue to take medicine.
When oral treatment is over…
It is necessary to have a regular examination for 2-3 years after the oral treatment is completed to check if it has recurred. The public health nurse in charge regularly provides guidance on the test and checks the test results.
physical checkup for families and people around tuberculosis patients
physical checkup is recommended for those who live with patients or have a certain degree of contact, to find out if they are infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis or develop tuberculosis. Whether a medical examination is necessary or not depends on the person. If you are worried, please contact us.
