About tuberculosis

Last update date April 6, 2021

South Health and Welfare Center provides consultation on treatment of tuberculosis and family health.

According to the Infectious Diseases Control Law, doctors report to Health and Welfare Center. Based on the notification, the public health nurse in charge has been consulted.

  • We provide medication support so that you can understand the disease correctly and recover quickly.
  • Consultations and medical examinations are conducted to see if there are any infected people around them.

Tuberculosis is a modern disease.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Even now, about 600 people take a year in the city, and about 40 people die. However, taking medicines that are effective for Mycobacterium tuberculosis increased the probability of healing.
If you have symptoms such as coughs or sputum lasting for more than 2 weeks, general malaise, or low-grade fever, consult a medical institution as soon as possible.
Minami Ward is an area where the incidence of tuberculosis is high in the city. In South Health and Welfare Center, we receive inquiries about tuberculosis and consultation with patients and their families.

So that medication can be continued…

Treatment of tuberculosis requires you to take multiple medicines every day for a specified period of time (6 months or more).
Subjective symptoms such as coughs, sputum, and low-grade fever subside in one to two months. However, if you stop taking medicine without permission, take or do not take medicine, tuberculosis bacteria will be resistant to drugs. It becomes "resistant bacteria" and the medicine will not work.
Even so, it's hard to keep taking medicine every day without subjective symptoms. In Minami Health and Welfare Center, a public health nurse in charge uses a medicine notebook to provide assistance through interviews, telephone calls, and visits, etc.

After the oral treatment is over…

After the oral treatment is over, it is necessary to have regular tests for 2-3 years to check for recurrence. The public health nurse in charge regularly provides guidance on the test and check the test results.

physical checkup for the family and surrounding people of tuberculosis patients

We recommend physical checkup for those living with patients or who have had a certain degree of contact, to find out if they are infected or have developed tuberculosis. Whether or not a medical examination is required depends on the person. If you have any questions, please contact us.
