Outline of town development utilizing history
Yokohama has a modern architecture, Western-style building, and civil engineering heritage since the opening of the port. In the suburbs, there are old private houses and shrines and temples that convey the atmosphere of rural areas. To re-evaluate these historical assets, position them as resources for urban development, and actively utilize them with conservation, we implemented the "Guidelines for Town Development."
With the cooperation of the owner, the purpose is to utilize it mainly while preserving the appearance of the building, and we are promoting "registration" and "certification" based on the outline. Certified historic buildings can be subsidized for renovation and maintenance of the exterior conservation.
In 1997, we established a seismic retrofit (structural reinforcement), and from 2022, we established a cost subsidy program for renovation. When it is possible by coordination with the owner and related departments, Yokohama City acquires a historic building and plans to maintain and open it as a citizen use facility.
