This is a unique business of Yokohama City that aims to improve disaster prevention and improve the living environment in dense residential urban areas with issues related to disaster prevention, and to work together not only with residents and the government but also with experts and NPOs. .
We will compile the town development that the region aims for as a "disaster prevention town development plan", and in order to realize it, we will utilize the local town development support system and the existing system in addition to the introduction of the national residential urban area comprehensive maintenance project.
Furthermore, according to local consensus formation, we will consider rules of town development such as city planning.

There are the following challenges in dense residential urban areas.

• Collapse or disappearance of houses during an earthquake
• Evacuation in the event of a disaster is difficult
• Roads and sites are narrow and difficult to rebuild
• It is difficult to enter ambulances, fire trucks, etc.

For this reason, 660ha of 23 districts, which meet the four conditions based on the following objective criteria, was selected as the target districts (see the casebook for details).

We will continue to consider the creation of local organizations.

• Planning for disaster prevention town development

We establish "town development meeting" as organization that inhabitants perform town development activity independently and make "disaster prevention town development plan" in that.

• Practice of disaster prevention community development

Based on the "Disaster Prevention Town Development Plan", we will solve the issues of the district by various improvement methods.

Urban Development Bureau, ward offices and community development support organizations (NPOs) cooperate to provide support.
