Yokohama City's unique business that aims to improve disaster prevention and living environment in densely populated residential urban areas with disaster prevention issues, and to work together with experts and NPOs as well as residents and the government. .
We compile town development that area aims at as "disaster prevention town development plan" and, for the realization, we utilize local town development support system and existing system in addition to introduction of national residential urban area comprehensive maintenance business.
Furthermore, according to local consensus building, we will consider rules of town development such as city planning.

There are the following issues in densely populated residential areas.

• The collapse or disappearance of houses during an earthquake
• Difficulty in evacuation during a disaster
• The roads and sites are narrow, making it difficult to rebuild.
• It is difficult for ambulances and fire trucks to enter.

For this reason, we selected 660ha in 23 districts that meet the four conditions based on the following objective criteria (see Casebook for details).

Collaboration with local residents is essential for improving disaster prevention and living environment in densely populated residential areas.
Therefore, we will actively provide disaster prevention information, raise awareness of disaster prevention, and promote step-by-step initiatives for improvement.

• Sharing disaster prevention information in the region

Residents and the government will share local disaster prevention information and raise awareness of disaster prevention.

• Started activities for disaster prevention community development

"Study session" will be held by volunteers of the residents.
We will inform you of the activity status in town development news.
We will continue to consider the creation of a regional organization.

• Planning for disaster prevention community development

We establish "town development meeting" as organization where inhabitants perform town development activity independently and make "disaster prevention town development plan" in that.

• Practice of disaster prevention community development

Based on the "Disaster Prevention Town Development Plan", we will solve the issues of the district by various improvement methods.

Urban Development Bureau, ward office, town development support group (NPO) cooperate and support.

We position town development meeting and disaster prevention town development plan by local town development promotion regulations and promote approach by collaboration with local resident and administration.

Step up from group (local town development group) which registered as group, and the mayor authorizes town development meeting (local town development organization) as organization representing area.
The mayor authorizes the "Disaster Prevention Town Development Plan" compiled by the Town Development Council as a local town development plan.

With dispatch of town development coordinator, we support a part of expense such as activity costs for meeting, facility maintenance to carry out based on plan. Please contact us for more information.

We dispatch town development support groups (NPOs) to study sessions in dispatch areas such as town development coordinators and meeting places.
Up to 300,000 yen per year (subsidy rate: 4/5) due to activity grant group registration (organizational certification)
Up to 2.5 million yen per year (in principle, grant rate: 9/10) by business grant organization certification
Up to 5 million yen per year (in principle, grant rate 9/10)
