Hamana-chan cooking contest

In order to raise understanding of agricultural products produced in Yokohama City and interest in school lunches, the “Hamana-chan Cooking Contest”, which proposes a new school lunch menu using vegetables and fruits from the city for elementary school students, was held in 2003. We hold. Every year, elementary school student's unique recipes are introduced, and some of them are actually used in school lunch's menu.
In fiscal 2024, as a special project to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Nishi Ward system, the 30th anniversary of the Aoba constituency system, and the 30th anniversary of the Tsuzuki constituency system, the Director General Prizes and other awards.

Since 2006, as an initiative to promote the use of agricultural and livestock products produced in the city for school lunches, we have been supplying vegetables from the city to all elementary schools and special support schools in the city during local production and local consumption month in November. . The use of agricultural and livestock products produced in the city for school lunches is an opportunity for elementary school student to learn about the area through ingredients and deepen their knowledge of local culture and history. This project is being implemented in cooperation with the Yokohama Agricultural Cooperative, the Yokohama School Food Education Foundation, City of Yokohama, Board of Education Secretariat, and the Green Environment Bureau.
In 2023, school lunch "Kenchin soup" made using radish produced in the city was provided to 316 schools in the city.
