In order to raise understanding of agricultural products produced in Yokohama City and interest in school lunches, the Hamana-chan Cooking Competition, which proposes a new school lunch menu using vegetables and fruits from the city for elementary school students, has been held since 2003. It has been held. Every year, elementary school student's thoughtful and unique recipes appear, and some are actually used in the school lunch menu.
In fiscal 2024, as a special project commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Nishi Ward system, the 30th anniversary of the Aoba system, and the 30th anniversary of the Tsuzuki system, the Director General Awards will be given to residents of the three wards.

Since 2006, as an initiative to promote the use of agricultural and livestock products produced in the city in school lunches, we have been supplying vegetables from the city to all elementary schools and special support schools in the city during the local production for local consumption month in November. . The use of agricultural and livestock products produced in the city in school lunches will encourage elementary school student to learn about the region through ingredients and deepen knowledge of local culture and history. This project is implemented in cooperation with the Yokohama Agricultural Cooperative, the Yokohama School Food Education Foundation, the City of Yokohama, Board of Education Secretariat, and the Green Environment Bureau.
In 2023, a school lunch “Kenchin soup” made using radish from the city was provided to 316 schools in the city.
