What is RCE?

RCE is an abbreviation for Regional Centers of Expertise on ESD that promotes ESD education for sustainable development.
It refers to a network of individuals, organizations, and institutions that provide environmental education, development education, and international understanding education in the region, and is proposed and certified by the United Nations University.
Yokohama was certified as "RCE Yokohama" by the United Nations University in April 2006.

About RCE Yokohama

RCE Yokohama’s goals and visions

We contribute to the achievement of the SDGs by further developing and developing ESD initiatives and activities that have been promoted in school education and community activities through the cooperation of all actors.

Role of RCE Yokohama

In Yokohama, citizens, NGOs, NPOs, educational institutions, companies, government, etc. are working to achieve the SDGs.
RCE Yokohama has a role as a base for expanding the circle of exchange and collaboration among people working to achieve the SDGs, including environmental education, so that the initiatives independently undertaken by each entity can further develop (consultation and support window, network creation).

RCE Yokohama's Policy

The members of the Yokohama RCE Network Council will expand the circle of activities and exchanges by proactively engaging in active communication.
Disseminate and share information, such as disseminating information on initiatives to achieve the SDGs and sharing the results of initiatives of each entity.
In addition, we perform support to promote cooperation for citizen, group which wants to expand circle of activity by connecting with others.

Education for Sustainable Development What is ESD?

Education and learning that aims to realize a sustainable society, recognizes that they live in relationships with people around the world, future generations, and the environment, and fosters the ability to participate in the creation of a better society. I mean
All subjects, from children to adults, become learners and bearers.

※ESD stands for “Education for Sustainable Development”.

There are many challenges in the world.

In addition to environmental issues such as global warming, the extinction of living creatures, and garbage, social and economic issues have become global issues.
In order to solve these issues, it is necessary to learn and act.
