 In August 2024, the International Conference on Biodiversity hosted by the Global Youth Network for Biodiversity will be held in Yokohama. On August 31, the last day, a closing session will be held and will be open to the public (advance application required).

About the International Youth Conference on Biodiversity Yokohama 2024

 The International Youth Conference on Biodiversity aims to create a transformative path toward the 2050 Vision for Biodiversity, "Symbiosis with Nature," and to contribute to the effective practice of the Kunming Montreal Biodiversity Framework (external site) through youth and its partners. The conference will compile a youth action plan that complements global goals as a result and will be shared at relevant occasions such as the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) scheduled to be held in Colombia in October 2024.

We carry out outdoor activities to learn about biodiversity and Japanese culture.

  • Morning: A lecture from Aeon Environmental Foundation at Aeon Mall Tamadaira Forest
  • Afternoon: Divided into four groups to visit learning facilities and tourist facilities in Yokohama City.

Minato Mirai Rogaining
By walking rallying points related to decarbonization and biodiversity in the Minato Mirai 21 district, you will learn about environmental symbiosis in urban areas while having fun.

Group B

Sankei-en Garden
This is a program where you can experience tea and walk around the park. Experience Japanese culture and learn Japanese traditional architecture that leads to SDGs.

Group C

Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center
While experiencing disaster prevention education in Japan, which is a major earthquake country, you will learn that disaster prevention and biodiversity are closely related.

Group D

Cup noodle museum

Students will learn about food diversity and sustainable initiatives while learning at the Cup Noodle Museum, which is very popular with inbound tourists.

Closing session

In addition to presenting what the youths discussed during the conference, we will also hold round-table discussions with local youth and overseas youth.

What is the Biodiversity Global Youth Network (GYBN)?

The Global Biodiversity Youth Network (GYBN) (external site) is an international platform that coordinates youth participation in the Convention on Biological Diversity. We are committed to activities that take into account youth perspectives and positions during the decision-making process. Since its establishment in 2010 in the wake of the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) held in Japan, it has grown into a network consisting of 172 countries, more than 700 youth organizations, 60 national branches, and 3 regional branches.
