Regional Strategy for Biodiversity (Yokohama Action Plan)

The Edinburgh Declaration

In Yokohama City, we agreed and signed the purpose of the Edinburgh Declaration, which summarizes the opinions of local governments around the world regarding biodiversity. (External site)

It was formulated with the aim of reflecting the voices of local governments in the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework, which is scheduled to be adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15, Kunming, China, in May 2021).
This support and signature demonstrates our strong commitment to biodiversity, recognizing the importance of the government's role in conservation and rehabilitating the natural environment and working in concert with the international community.

Montreal Pledge

The City of Yokohama has endorsed and signed the Montreal Pledge, a pledge related to the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15). (External site)

At the call of Mayor Valerie Plante of Montreal, the host city of COP15, Mayor of Montreal, stated 15 concrete actions taken by local governments for the conservation Biodiversity. Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD/COP)

What is the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (external site)?
The Conference of the Parties (COP), the highest decision-making body of the Convention on Biological Diversity, is held approximately once every two years. The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) (external site) was held in Montreal, Canada from December 7 to 19, 2022, and the Kunming Montreal Biodiversity Framework, a new global goal for biodiversity, was adopted in 2011-2020.

Biodiversity Local Government Network

Yokohama City participates in the “Biodiversity Local Government Network” (outside site), in which local governments nationwide are members, and promotes initiatives in cooperation with local governments nationwide.
