In March 2024, Yokohama City established the Yokohama City Library Vision in March 2024 to investigate and examine the ideal way of the library as a place where all citizens can spend a comfortable time, and show the future vision of the City Library and the direction of initiatives.
For realization of new library image to show in Yokohama-shi library vision, we push forward examination of the making of space with facility maintenance of library and new function, function expansion.
In Yokohama City Library Vision, which was formulated in March 2024, in order to improve access to library services, we will expand service points that allow you to borrow and return books outside of the library. We will consider specific installation locations in the future.
The Yokohama City Library is open except during the year-end and New Year holidays, monthly facility inspections and special collection of books once a year. While many public libraries in the prefecture are closed more than 4 days a month, Yokohama City abolished the closed days once a week in December 2001, making it the current opening day.
It is necessary to consider the expansion of opening days and opening hours, including the balance between expenses and effects, and there is currently no plan to expand it.
Municipal Central Library collects music video materials such as CDs and DVDs for research purposes. Materials collected for the purpose of research and research will not be borrowed, but will be viewed after visiting the museum.
There are many requests for the number of books reserved, but there is a concern that increasing the number of books reserved will spur the situation of waiting for those who wish to have the same book. In addition, due to issues such as an increase in the delivery volume of books, the maximum number of books reserved is kept at the current six.
