Valuable materials

Last Updated January 25, 2020

The Kanazawa Library strives to collect and store a wide range of local materials related to Kanagawa Prefecture and Yokohama City, especially those related to Kanazawa Ward.
Some of the materials collected in this way are valuable materials that are rarely owned elsewhere.
These valuable materials have been unveiled several times in the past, but they are usually carefully preserved in the back of the library library.
Digital images of these materials have been posted on "Yokohama's Memory" in "Knowing Yokohama" on the Yokohama City Library website.
You can also see the enlarged image, so please use it.
Here, we will introduce the main materials of these materials.

Ukiyo-e and pictorial drawings

Speaking of the scenic spots in Kanazawa Ward, Hiroshige Ando (1797-1858) is famous for its scenic beauty.
The Kanazawa Library has a four-cut versions from Kinryu-in Temple and a small postcard-sized version.
The composition of these two types has almost the same composition, but the colors are very different.

Hakkei Anmi map

The Kanazawa Library also has two types of views from Nokendai, known for its good view.
Among them, "Hakkei Anmizu" is said to be one of the earliest days.
If the oldest of the library collection is "Hakkei Yasumizu", the largest one is "Kanazawa Hakkei no Zu".
It is a large picture with a height of 45cm and 94cm wide, so it rarely comes out of the library.

Takeyo Kanazawa Hakkei Map

In addition, there are four types of "Buyo Kanazawa Hakkei Map" with many versions, and "Kanazawa Hakkei Map (Hisaiko Kanazawa Hakkei Map)" and "Kanazawa Hakkei Copilation Map (Nishikono Hakkei Takeno Kanazawa Hakkei Map)" and "Kanazawa Hakkei Copy Map (Nishikono Hakkei Takeno Kanazawa model)" and so on.

Picture postcard

Until the war, postcards were not only one of the important media that vividly conveys not only tourist spots, but also the world, customs, and sometimes incidents.
The Kanazawa Library holds several postcards created after the Hakkei of Kanazawa and postcards introducing historical sites of Kanazawabunko.
Both were created in the early Showa era, and the photos show the scenery of the time.
