Based on the Second Yokohama Citizen's Reading Activity Promotion Plan, Yokohama City Library provides various services to municipal schools as one initiative to promote children's reading activities.
This page introduces City Library's services available to faculty and staff at elementary schools, junior high schools, compulsory education schools, special needs schools and high schools in Yokohama.

1. School Program

The following programs are available at the 18 Yokohama City Library Hall.

Services for elementary school student and Students

Study learning

You can do research using library materials. By introducing the structure of the library and how to search for information, we will support you to gain the power to investigate. Please contact us as the librarian can guide you on how to find it.

Library tour

While guiding the library, we will explain the role and services of the library and introduce how to use the library.

Machitanken / Library Interview

The librarian will answer questions in cooperation with the second grade of elementary school life science and the third grade social studies unit "Machitanken". We also accept library interviews according to other units.

Work experience, occupational interview, job guide

You can learn what kind of work you are doing in public libraries.

  • Work experience…You can experience various tasks in the library.
  • Occupational Interview…We will answer questions about the role of the library and the work of the librarian in an interview format.
  • Job Guide (Occupational Course)…The librarian will talk about the role of the library and the work of the librarian.

Services for faculty and staff

School library environment improvement consultation

The librarian visits the school library and accepts consultations on overall environmental improvement of the school library, such as disposal of books, classification methods, and layout changes. We will give you various advice according to the situation of each school.

Training on reading activities and library use

Librarians provide training at in-school training and municipal study groups.

Lending, set lending, and information provision for faculty and staff


The library will help you study classes and teaching materials.

  • Loans to faculty and staff…This system lends materials necessary for classes and research to faculty and staff. You can borrow 40 books at a time, up to 30 days. For more information, please refer to the documentation.2 Loans to faculty and staffPlease refer to the following page.
  • Set rental…We will lend you materials on themes that are often featured in school classes in a set of about 20 to 40 books for each theme. For more information, please refer to the official website.3 sets LendingPlease refer to the following page.
  • Training on school libraries…I will help you with research related to classes and research. In addition, we also accept consultations on selecting materials to be purchased at the school library and consultations on initiatives related to reading activities such as "Hamako Reading Day".

Services for Parents and Volunteers

Training is provided for school libraries, parents and volunteers involved in reading activities. If you want to use it, please apply through the school.

  • Story-telling course

We provide library materials lending service for Yokohama City school teachers.
You can borrow up to 40 books at a time for 30 days. You can choose materials according to your purpose and theme.

  • Research materials for subjects and teaching materials for faculty and staff.
  • As a material for study learning and reading activities in class
  • As a reference for selecting materials for school libraries

The materials borrowed must be kept and managed by faculty and staff, so they cannot be diverted to class libraries that can be borrowed freely by elementary school student students.

※Book agency service points (district center, community house, administrative service corner, Hiyoshi book agency) and mobile library "Hamakaze-go" cannot be used for faculty and staff.
Registration for use

As a general rule, please register with City Library in your school district.

  • Lending registration (update) application for faculty and staff (PDF: 104KB)Please fill in required items and submit it to the City Library window in the school district. ※We cannot accept faxes.
  • Please bring a document that can identify you and one of the following that can confirm your name and school name. (1) Staff ID card (2) Copy of the person part of the city staff record or prefectural public school teacher record (3) Postal mail with the name and the school name of the place of work.
  • The validity period is until the end of March of the registration year. Registration is required for each year.
  • If there is a change in the registration details. Notification of change of loan registration items for faculty and staff (PDF: 104KB)Please fill in required items and submit it to the registered library.
  • You must complete the registration procedure by yourself.


Usage guide
  • You can borrow up to 40 books at a time for 30 days.
  • If you wish to borrow, please contact the registered City Library at least 7 days in advance.
  • Lending and returning books will be accepted at the registered library.
  • In some cases, any of the following materials, such as books with many reservations, may be refused to lend to faculty and staff, or may be asked to limit the number of books borrowed. (1) Materials not owned by Yokohama City Library (2) The latest publication (3) Materials with a considerable number of loan reservations (4) Materials in fields with a small number of books held (5) Materials expected to be used in multiple schools, grades, classes, etc. during the same period (6) materials from the same journal (7) materials from the same subject (theme) or materials from the same author.

≪Notes on Lending≫

  • Loans to faculty and staff cannot be registered at multiple museums in City Library.
  • We ask the borrower to transport books.
  • The borrowed books cannot be used for any purpose other than lending to faculty and staff.
  • If the borrowed book is lost or soiled, you will be compensated in principle.

≪Precautions for Return≫

  • Please be sure to observe the return deadline.
  • When returning materials with the same return date, please return them to the registered City Library.
  • book return box cannot be used. Please be sure to bring it to the counter.
