Yokohama City Library 100th Anniversary Site

City Library held various events commemorating the 100th anniversary in fiscal 2021.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of its opening on June 11, 2021, we invited citizens and volunteers who supported the operation of the library to hold commemorative ceremonies and lectures.
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, ceremonies and lectures were held online with limited number of people at the venue.

Venue: Konan Public Hall (10-1 Konan Chuo-dori, Konan-ku)

Together with Director Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, we welcomed Studio Ghibli Producer Toshio Suzuki, who has sent out a number of animation works.
It was films and books that laid the foundations and spread the world. "ALL ABOUT TOSHIO SUZUKI" introduces the past, present, and future from a huge record of works that have been produced so far, such as "Kokuriko Saka" set in Yokohama. This is a dialogue with the editor, Mr. Nagatsuka, who walked together in the process of knitting one book.

Known for documentary films such as Yokohama Mary and Zen and Bone, Director Takahiro Nakamura uses Chuo-toshokan in filmmaking.
We talked about how to use the library unique to Director Nakamura and the process of creating a movie based on the materials actually used.

It has been 100 years since it opened at a temporary reading site in Yokohama Park in 1921.
There were times of hardship in the library, such as the burning of buildings and collections due to the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the relocation of multiple times during the war.
After the war, society changed drastically, such as the population growth during the period of high economic growth, the spread of lifelong learning, and the spread of the Internet, and libraries were created from one building in Noge to all 18 wards, and the library information system was operating. Changed greatly.

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of City Library, we conducted electronic applications and voting for logos at each library to create logos that symbolize Yokohama City Library.
6,892 people voted, and this design was decided that won 3,425 votes.

The thoughts on the Yokohama City Library logo mark

The three books are the components of the library, "people," "books," and "opportunities."
In the three books, "Y" formed at the center represents "Yokohama" and "Yokohama".
The part of the base circle represents the "town" and "connection" that are the basis of the existence of the library.
The entire logo mark symbolizes the Yokohama City Library, which connects people, books, opportunities, and towns.
