Yokohama Children's International Peace Program

<Peace Education x International Education> Yokohama's unique approach to deepening international understanding and thinking about peace

What is the Yokohama Children's International Peace Program?

 This program has been held since 1986 to raise awareness of international peace among elementary school student students in Yokohama, and to promote the importance of international peace. We foster a stance of trying to practice what we can do in the international community.

Yokohama Children's International Peace Speech Contest

Approximately 40,000 elementary and junior high school students in the city think about international peace from their respective perspectives.

State of the 2023 Final Selection

 Yokohama has been holding the Yokohama Children's International Peace Speech Contest since 1996 to raise awareness of international peace among elementary school student students in Yokohama. Every year, about 40,000 elementary and junior high school students participate in the event, the theme of "what I want to do for international peace" from various viewpoints unique to elementary school student students.
 In this contest, qualifying rounds will be held in each ward from mid-June to early July, and in the 2023 finals held in late July, the qualifying round will be held from about 40,000 applicants A total of 38 students, 20 elementary school students and 18 junior high school students, participated.

Elementary school section (2 students in total)

 ・"Let's change yourself by knowing" Ai Yoshida (6th year of Shinano Elementary School)

 ・"I hope it will spread, gentle heart" Yushin Shimada (6th year special support school for blind)

Junior high school (2 people in total)

 ・Miyo Ohno (3rd year in Mori Junior High School)

 ・Haruka Sasaki (3rd year in Nisi Junior High School, Hiyoshidai)

Yokohama Children's International Peace Program

On behalf of elementary school student students in Yokohama, we engage in various activities related to international peace.

 The 38 people who participated in the speech contest finals will be commissioned as the “Children's Executive Committee” and will engage in various activities related to international peace throughout the year.

Yokohama Children's Peace Messenger

Visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York to disseminate our wishes for peace to the world.

 The four people who won the Mayor's Award in the speech contest finals visited the United Nations Headquarters and UNICEF headquarters in New York as `` Yokohama Children's Peace Messenger '', and created by allelementary school student students in the city, and held talks with UN officials.
