Voting for people with physical disabilities

 If you have visual impairments, you can vote in Braille (Braille voting). If you are unable to write on your own due to physical disability, etc., the staff at the polling place will fill out on behalf of you (proxy voting). If you wish, please contact us at the polling place.

Aiming to realize bright and beautiful elections and participate in voting on a daily basis, we are promoting the following enlightenment activities, including street enlightenment at the time of elections. .

Once a year, we hold a bright election promotion tournament throughout Yokohama City.

  • Senkyo Forum

The Senkyo Forum is a regular enlightenment activity for elections using a participatory learning method, and is a discussion project in each ward of Yokohama City as a chance to learn and discuss politics, elections and familiar living issues jointly. I am. The primary objective of Konan Ward is to increase the participation of young people in voting at elementary and junior high schools.

Number of Registrants

 The right to vote is any Japanese citizen who is 18 years of age or older. However, it is necessary to be registered in the electoral list to vote even if you have the right to vote. Those who are registered in the electoral list are those who have been registered in the Basic Resident Register for at least three months after the resident certificate was created or the transfer notification was accepted.
 There are two types of registration in the electoral list: regular registration in March, June, September, and December, and election registration that determines the base date and registration date for each election.

About reading of electoral list

Reading of electoral list is permitted only for the following three points.

  • When the elector confirms whether the elector has registered himself or the elector of the same household.
  • When a candidate, political party, or other political organization engages in political or election campaigns
  • When a national or local government or an academic institution such as a news agency or university conducts public opinion polls or academic research for public purposes.

 Due to the revision of the Public Office Election Law, the Election Commission will publish at least once a year the name of the applicant for browsing, the target of browsing, the outline of the purpose of use, etc. of the browsing status of the electoral list excerpt.

Absentee voting in other municipalities (voting in)

If you stay in other municipalities until the voting date on a trip or business trip, you can request a ballot from Konan Ward and vote at the Election Commission of your accommodation.

Absentee voting by mail (postal voting)

For those with severe physical disabilities and those who need nursing care under the Nursing Care Insurance Law, there is a system that allows them to vote by mail at home.
※Absentee voting by mail must be issued a "certificate by mail" in advance. Please contact the Election Commission as soon as possible.

Absentee voting at hospitals and nursing homes (facility voting)

If you are hospitalized or in a hospital or nursing home, if you are designated as a facility where you can vote for absentees, you can vote for absentees at that facility, so please contact the head of the facility.

Even if you live abroad, you can vote for national elections in Japan.
In order to vote, it is necessary to register in the overseas electoral list in advance.
