About drinking water

Last update date May 17, 2023

What kind of "water" do you drink?

Humans are said to need about 3 liters of drinking water a day.
In order for us to live a healthy life, clean water is essential.
The water we drink is sent to you by disinfecting the water of rivers and lakes at water purification plants.
Chlorine is used for disinfection, thereby suppressing the growth of microorganisms.
By the way, even the tap water you usually drink is different in high-rise buildings such as detached houses and condominiums.

Detached house

Water is supplied directly to household faucets from the main water supply.

High-rise buildings such as condominiums

Many apartments store tap water once in a tank called a "water receiving tank" and then supplied to household faucets.
It is the responsibility of the building owner to manage water through the receiving tank.
Neglecting cleaning can lead to unexpected accidents, so be sure to manage the aquarium.
For more information, please see "About the water receiving tank."
(* We recommend switching to direct connection water supply. For more information, please visit the City of Yokohama, Water Works Bureau page.)

About well water

Unlike tap water, many people feel that well water is cold and delicious without chlorine odor.
However, well water is affected by the season, weather, and surrounding environment.
In recent years, it may be contaminated with various substances under the influence of urbanization.
Tap water is recommended for drinking water.

About water purifiers

A water purifier may be installed for the purpose of removing chlorine odor.
However, if the management is poor, you are drinking dirty water.
When using the water purifier, read the instructions carefully and be careful when replacing or cleaning cartridges.
