Outline of Yokohama City Sports Promotion Committee

The Sports Promotion Committee is a part-time employee commissioned by the The Mayor of Yokohama based on the Basic Sports Law and the Yokohama City Sports Promotion Committee Rules, and plays an important role as a promoter of Motoichi sports administration.
In Motoichi, each citizen aims at becoming familiar with sports recreation activity in everyday life and is aiming at the spread and development. Sports promotion committee members, especially in the district, based on solidarity with the local people and the cooperation of the committee, plan, drafting, implementation, and dissemination activities of sports and recreation promotion projects rooted in the community, etc. We are developing businesses that meet the diversification of the region.

1957 | Since the Ministry of Education encouraged the establishment of a “physical education council” system, Motoichi plans to expand the organization of the physical education council. |
1961 | The "Sports Promotion Law" is enacted, and the position and role of the physical education council are clarified. |
1963 | Establish "Yokohama City Physical Education Guidance Committee Rules" to determine the duties of duties. |
2011 | With the enactment of the Basic Sports Law, the name was changed from the Yokohama City Physical Education Guidance Committee to the Yokohama City Sports Promotion Committee. Established "Yokohama City Sports Promotion Committee Rules" |

Selection method, etc.
1 Status: Part-time special civil servants based on the Basic Sports Law and the Yokohama City Sports Promotion Committee Regulations
2 Term: 2 years, however, does not prevent reappointment. In addition, the term of the substitute sports promotion committee shall be the remaining term of the predecessor.
3 Age: New employees are under 65 years old in principle as of the date of re-election, and in the case of re-election, under 70 years old in principle. (The election date is as of April 1 of the reelection year.)
4 Election method: We request recommendation of one person in principle to Neighborhood Association town chairperson, and the mayor commissions.
5 Remuneration: None
Duties
1 We will promote dissemination activities to raise the understanding and interest in sports and recreation for residents.
(Execution of Kenmin Festival, athletic meet, etc.)
2. We will foster and instruct organizations to promote sports and recreation activities for local people.
(Cooperation with comprehensive community sports clubs and school opening)
We participate in sports, recreation promotion business of three cities, wards, district and plan the promotion.
(Management cooperation with Yokohama Marathon, etc., and operation of marathon events and swimming classes in each ward)
4. We will cooperate in the business of various sports and recreation groups and other related organizations.
(Cooperation with the City Sports Association)
5. Foster and discover successor leaders.
6 We provide necessary guidance and advice for the spread and promotion of sports and recreation for local people.
