The relationship between Yokohama and movies is old, and in the Taisho era, a studio was set up in a corner of Motomachi Park, where many films were produced. In the past, when directed by Masahiro Shinoda produced "Setouchi Moonlight Cerenade", it was necessary to interact with several places to obtain applications and permission for shooting Hikawa Maru and Yamashita Park, and it was suggested that the city could organize the procedures. In addition, the late director Juzo Itami sent a column in the newspaper saying "I want Yokohama's Video City Declaration" and the Kanagawa Shimbun-sha published an article "A film commission in Yokohama!" The momentum for the establishment of film commissions has increased.
On the other hand, nationwide, volunteers from private companies, film officials, film directors, etc. gathered, and the “Film Commission Establishment Study Group” was launched to establish “Film Commission” in Japan. The Yokohama Film Commission business started on October 1, 2000, with a course called “Aiming for a Video City: First Step of the Yokohama Film Commission”.


What is a film commission?
The Film Commission provides support for filming locations such as movies, television, commercials, etc., by introducing location locations, coordinating and managing permission and notification procedures, and introducing related businesses such as accommodation facilities for shooting staff and arranging lunch boxes. Organization to do. Most of them are mainly local governments and related organizations, and are mostly non-profit.
Normally, various procedures are required to shoot images such as movies in the city. For example, to shoot on the road or use explosives, you must obtain permission from police and fire departments and other related organizations. The role of the film commission is to smoothly proceed with these complicated procedures between the video maker and related organizations such as the government and companies, and to work to attract photography.

History of Film Commissions
The film commission was born in the late 1940s due to the need for cooperation between police in the Los Angeles region of the United States and caretaker in state soldiers, highway patroll, fire department and national park. At that time, Hollywood's request for traffic control and blockade roads was simply made to facilitate its activities. In the 1970s, many film shoots began to seek reality, and demand for filming increased. With this movement, the need for film commissions increased, and in the 1990s, it was established one after another in the United States, the world's largest film power, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Mexico, Hong Kong, etc. Was.
Japan's first film commission was established in Osaka in February 2000. Subsequently, it was established in Kobe and Kitakyusyu in September of the same year, and Yokohama launched its fourth film commission in Japan in October of the same year. Since then, film commissions have been established in many municipalities.
