History of Image Culture City
In the Meiji and Taisho eras, Yokohama, which was the contact point for Japanese culture, video culture activities have been carried out since ancient times. The photographer Renjo Shimooka opened Japan's first photo studio in Basyamichi, and in 1897, a movie was screened at Minatoza, and Isezakicho and Kannai were once crowded with many movie theaters. In the Taisho era, there was a studio in Motomachi, and a movie originated in Yokohama. In recent years, the "Yokohama Film Festival" has been launched by movie fans, and its history has been carved. In response to the history of Yokohama, a video culture city, the city is focusing on developing human resources who will be responsible for video culture and disseminating video culture into the region.
