 Commentary

1 Smoking is the cause of lifestyle-related diseases and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) such as cancer and diabetes.

Oh

Tobacco smoke contains more than 200 harmful substances and more than 60 carcinogens.
If you continue to smoke, you can see lifestyle-related diseases and other cancers, diabetes, periodontal disease, etc.
It has been shown that the likelihood of getting COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is increased.

2 Continuing smoking increases the risk of tooth loss.

Oh

The mouth is the first organ that suffers from tobacco directly. Tobacco smoke contains thousands of chemicals, of which 200 or 300 harmful substances, such as nicotine and carcinogens. The action of these harmful substances destroy bones and gums, and smokers are 2 to 8 times more susceptible to periodontal disease than non-smokers. Smokers are also poorly cured periodontal disease and are at high risk of losing teeth in the future.

3 Heated tobacco (a type that heats and suck without burning tobacco leaves) contains nicotine.

Oh

We did not investigate all heated tobacco products, but we have found that the amount of nicotine in mainstream smoke is about 70-80%, the same as cigarettes. Therefore, heated tobacco may fall into nicotine addiction and make it difficult to quit smoking.

 4. After 24 hours of smoking cessation, the likelihood of a heart attack is reduced.

Oh

When smoking cessation is stopped, heart rate, blood pressure, pulse, etc. begin to return to normal state 20 minutes after the start, and changes such as an increase in skin temperature in the limbs. After 24 hours, the likelihood of a heart attack is less. It is the beginning of smoking cessation from the moment you finish smoking.

6 Due to the revision of the Health Promotion Law, schools, hospitals, child welfare facilities, government agencies, etc. will be banned from smoking on the premises.

Oh

Cigarettes are known to have various health effects not only on your own body, but also on people who do not smoke by passive smoking.
The revised Health Promotion Law was enacted in July 2018 to prevent unwanted passive smoking.
Class 1 facilities (= schools, child welfare facilities, hospitals, clinics, government offices, etc., facilities used by children and patients) will be banned from smoking on the premises from July 1, 2019.
※However, smoking areas (specific outdoor smoking areas) can be set up in places where necessary measures have been taken to prevent passive smoking. Smoking areas are not allowed to enter smoking areas under 20 years of age.
In addition, it is necessary to show a sign indicating that it is a specific outdoor smoking area.
In addition, the second-class facilities and smoking facilities will be implemented in stages by April 2020.

For more information on passive smoking prevention measures in Yokohama City, please see Passive Smoking Prevention Measures.
