Basic Plan for the International Horticultural Exposition at Former Kamiseya Communication Facility

Based on the report received from the Invitation Review Committee on February 28, 2018, on March 29, 2018, Yokohama City formulated the "Basic Plan for the International Horticultural Expo at the Former Kamiseya Communication Facility" .

Outline of the Basic Plan for the International Horticultural Exposition at the Former Kamiseya Communication Facility

Introduction

The International Horticultural Expo is held with the aim of promoting international horticultural culture, living full of flowers and greenery, creating communities and economies, and contributing to solving social issues.
Yokohama has citizens' power to support flowers, greenery and towns, and activities of companies and organizations, and as many as 6 million people visited the National Urban Greenery Yokohama Fair. It is also a wonderful stage suitable for entertaining people from all over the world as an international port opening city.
At the former Kami Seya Communication Facility, an international horticultural exposition full of life and future seeds will be held with flowers and greenery as symbols, and the town development of the base site will progress and a sustainable environment for the next generation will contribute to the creation of a new economy. In addition, it will impress children around the world and lead to creative proposals for the future from Yokohama and messages of friendship and peace.

Former Kamiseya Communication Facility

Located in the northwestern part of Yokohama City, it has been requisitioned for many years, and was returned in 2015. With an area of about 242 ha, it is the largest flat land in the Tokyo metropolitan area. It is close to the Tomei Expressway and the Hodogaya Bypass, and has the advantage of traffic access. We are promoting new town development through the promotion of agriculture and urban land use, and have great potential as a revitalization base in the suburbs.

Basic Philosophy

The world is in the midst of a major shift toward an environmental society in order to sustain a limited global environment.
Response to abnormal weather, frequent natural disasters, hunger, etc. is a common goal of all mankind, and the United Nations SDGs (building a sustainable society where no one is left behind) are being addressed as urgent issues.
In addition, Japan is required to respond to the declining birthrate and aging population and socio-economic trends from a new perspective that enables a sustainable environment and economy.
In order to pass on the global environment to the next generation, it is necessary to share the wisdom and mechanisms of strategic coexistence with nature, create technological innovation and industrial fields that transform issues into value, and develop them as international actions toward economic growth and social maturity that enables them.
In Japan, it is important for the future to lead this international initiative to build a new environmental society and revitalize the economy.
Yokohama has a history of international exchange as an open port city, the power of 3.73 million citizens, the activities of a variety of companies and organizations, the city planning of the future environment city and Garden City Yokohama, and the vitality, foundation, and track record of various platforms that connect people and companies.
