[Press Release] First Half of 2023 Fire and Emergency Response

①Arson (including suspicion) was the first cause of all fires.
　Residential fires were the highest for five consecutive years, and 70% of deaths from fires were elderly.
・The total number of fires was 378, an increase of 42 compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, with "arson (including suspicion)" ranked number one cause of fire. The number of house fires was 140, a decrease of 10 compared to the same period of the previous year, and the cause of fires was "Konro" was 32, the highest for the fifth consecutive year.
・Seven people died due to the fire, of which 5 (70%) were elderly people.
② Both the number of emergency cases and the number of transport personnel increased at a faster pace than the previous year, which recorded a record high.
・　The number of emergency participations was 116,999, an increase of 3,772 (3.3%) from the previous year, which was a record high.
・　The number of transport personnel was 94,436, an increase of 2,604 (2.8%) from the same period of the previous fiscal year. Looking at the ratio of transport personnel by age, 56.4% of the elderly, and 52.4% for moderate or higher by degree of injury and illness.
・　In particular, the number of new and infants under the age of seven was 7,971, an increase of 2,045 (34.5%) from the same period of the previous year.
・　The number of transport personnel with fever increased rapidly, and in June, an increase of 1,335 (24.4%) compared to the same month last year.
