Overview of Fire and Emergency 2023 (Preliminary Report)

①The number of fires has increased significantly, and the number one cause of fires has been tobacco for the second consecutive year.

・The total number of fires was 733, an increase of 94 compared to the previous year, and tobacco was the number one cause of fire for the second consecutive year.

・The number of electric fires (*) in all fires was 211, the highest ever.

・There were 14 deaths from fires (excluding arson and suicide), all of which occurred in houses, and 70% were elderly people.

②The number of emergency participations exceeded 250,000, a record high along with transport personnel.

・The number of emergency participations was 254,636, an increase of 10,550 (4.3%) compared to the previous year, recording a record high.

・The number of transport personnel was 204,969, an increase of 12,796 (6.7%) compared to the previous year, recording a record high. Looking at the ratio of transport personnel by age, 56.2% for elderly people and 51.9% for moderate or higher by degree of injury and illness.

※An electric fire is a fire in which equipment, supplies, and equipment that use electricity as energy as an ignition source.
