2023 Fire and Emergency Preparedness (Bulletin)

①The number of fires increased significantly, and tobacco was the number one cause of fire for the second consecutive year.

・The total number of fires was 733, an increase of 94 from the previous year, and tobacco was the number one cause of fires.

・The number of electric fires (*) in all fires was 211, a record high.

・There were 14 deaths (excluding arson suicide) due to the fire, all occurred in houses, and 70% were elderly.

②The number of emergency services has exceeded 250,000, a record high along with transport personnel.

・The number of emergency participations was 254,636, an increase of 10,550 (4.3%) from the previous year, a record high.

・The number of transport personnel was 204,969, an increase of 12,796, or 6.7% from the previous year, a record high. Looking at the ratio of transport personnel by age, 56.2% of the elderly, and 51.9% of moderate or higher were moderate or higher.

※An electric fire is a fire in which equipment, supplies, or equipment that uses electricity as an energy source.
