World Smart City Award (2011)

At the International Conference on Smart City Expo 2011 held in Barcelona, Spain from November 29 to December 2, 2011, the Yokohama Smart City Project and other initiatives aimed at realizing a low-carbon society, such as the Yokohama Smart City Project, held in Barcelona, Spain.

At international conferences and exhibitions held in Barcelona, Spain, where electricity liberalization and the mass introduction of renewable energy are progressing, more than 200 smart city-related companies and local governments from about 30 countries participated in discussions and information exchange toward building a sustainable society.
Yokohama City was highly evaluated for its efforts in the Yokohama Smart City Project, and participated in this international conference with the invitation of Barcelona.

Outline of the World Smart City Awards

This award was established to commend cities, projects, and solutions that clearly contribute to the development of the concept of the Smart City Expo 2011.
The award was selected by a selection committee consisting of external experts such as the World Bank and the International Fund in Europe, from more than 100 entries from 19 countries, with three categories. In the urban sector, the project category was awarded a traffic management project for public parking lots in Nice, France in the project category, and the water management system by a private Spanish company in the solution category.
